Charles Vandever Obituary

Charles Shepard Vandevercorpus chriSti, TXCharles Shepard Vandever, 69, passed away March 30, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in 1943 to Malcolm and Marie Vandever of Corpus Christi, TX.Charles was a lifelong resident of Corpus Christi, TX. He graduated from W. B. Ray High School. He worked for the International Longshoremen's Association, Local 1692 for 44 years. After retiring as a Longshoreman, he worked as a Substance Abuse Counselor at STSARS until 2005. Charles spent his retirement years baking, listening to his favorite music, riding his Harley, playing with his grand dogs and cat and using his incredible sense of humor to keep his family and friends laughing. In his earlier years he enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, skiing, and spending time on the water and in the Texas Hill Country. Charles had a love for laughter and a heart of pure gold.Charles was preceded in death by his father, Charles Malcolm Vandever; his mother, Mollie Marie Vandever; and his dear sister, Molly Sue Vandever. Charles was a loving father and family man who is survived by his life partner and close friend, Patricia Cheryl Vandever; his daughter, Chari Denise Vandever; his son, Charles Taze Vandever; and his granddaughter who he co-parented with much love, Karma Phoenix Vandever, all of Corpus Christi, TX; as well as two nieces, one nephew, and many cousins. He lived a wonderful life filled with laughter and love surrounded by his family. He will be greatly missed by all.The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Paul Heath, as well as the doctors and nurses at Doctor's Regional Hospital CVICU, and Odyssey Hospice at Trinity Towers for their loving care during Charles' last days.A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel with a gathering to follow at the home of Steve and Debra Sanders.
