Edward Mejia Obituary
Edward "Eddie" Mejia, 62, of Robstown, Texas, died Thursday, September 6, 2007 surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Mercedes, Texas to Petra Gonzalez Mejia and Elijio Mejia, Sr., on October 13, 1944. He graduated from Robstown High School in 1964. He proudly served his country for 10 years achieving rank of Sgt. First Class in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. He served in Thailand during the Vietnam War. He graduated from DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago with an associate's degree in Communications. He started his career as a police officer in Robstown in 1977, and served as Chief of Police in 1986 - 1989, 1995 - 2000. He retired from the force in 2000. Former Police Chief Mejia juggled politics, the law and family life, carving his name into the history of Robstown. As a proud supporter of Robstown Athletics, he devoted countless hours to the athletic booster club after his retirement. Eddie was an avid fisherman who enjoyed his time with family fishing. He was a member of the St. Anthony's Catholic Church. He also served on the Robstown Independent School District School Board as President from 1980 - 1983. Eddie was a loving and devoted husband, father, uncle and grandfather, who will be greatly missed by those who loved him, and by those whose lives he touched. Eddie leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 28 years, Gabriela (Gay) Mejia of Robstown, Texas; daughter Micaela and her husband Joshua Pond of Arlington, Virginia; son Matthew Edward and his wife Donna Mejia of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and son Edward Michael Mejia and his wife Tammy Mejia of Corpus Christi, Texas. Grandchildren: Aidan, Lily, Isabella, Cruz, Ryan, Zachery and Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Maggie Barrera. Josefina Mejia, Petra (Joe) Valdez, Lydia Soza and the late Mac Soza, Dora (Emilio) Flores from Robstown, Texas; Vangie (Richard) Gonzalez from Sinton, Texas; Leonard (Norma) Mejia from Odem, Texas; Elijio (Anna) Mejia Jr., Paul (Mari) Mejia and Juanita Mejia from Brownsville, Texas, brother-in-laws, Robert Barrera of Robstown, Texas and Antonio A. Maldonado of Kingsville, Texas. He also leaves behind 47 nieces and nephews and 59 great-nieces and nephews. He is gone but not forgotten. The EAGLE has flown and we will soon join as one. A holy rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m., on Sunday, September 9, 2007 at Ramon Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, September 10, 2007 at the Robstown High School Auditorium. Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Mausoleum.
