Edway Askey Obituary

Edway Travis Askey, 87, departed this life November 18, 2003 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Our father Edway Travis Askey was born July 21, 1916, in Leeville, Texas. He was an only child. He attended public school in Gonzales County and there he met his mate Pearlie B. Surrell and they were married October 5, 1940. They both loved the Lord and very dedicated to St. Paul United Methodist Church. Our Dad was a proud member of the United Methodist Men Organization. There were four daughters born to this couple, Bernell, Betty, Evelyn and Elvira Askey. Our Dad retired from Parkway Presbyterian Church as a sexton in 1979. And he loved all the members and considered them as family also. He was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to ever cherish his memory: his wife, Pearlie B. Askey; his four daughters; Bernell Russell of Missouri City, Texas, Betty Whiteside, Elvira Wyatt and Evelyn Miller all of Corpus Christi, Texas; three sister-in-laws who are dedicated to our family; 18 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nephews and nieces. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord. Visitation will be held from 12 noon until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2003 at Corpus Christi Funeral Home with a Wake to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1202 Sam Rankin.
