Elsie Compton Obituary

Elsie Ruth Compton passed away on April 3, 2006 with her family and loving caregivers at her side. Elsie was born August 5, 1924 in Watertown, Massachusetts. As a youth she was very active in Rainbow Girls. After high school graduation she attended secretarial school and was working in Boston when she met and married LtCdr Raymond F. Compton, USN. Elsie was the consummate Navy wife and homemaker, each of her seven children was born at a different duty station-from Providence, Rhode Island to Whidbey Island, Washington. Elsie was a joiner and natural "boss" participating in countless Officers Wives Clubs, PTA's, scout troops and craft projects. She loved to travel and collecting and never missed a party invitation.Elsie is survived by her seven children: Susan Karahalios, Oak Harbor, WA; David Compton (Laura), New Orleans, LA; Carol DeLine (Don), Corpus Christi, TX; Raymond Compton II, Dallas, TX; Cindee Siddiq, Slidell, LA; Casey Compton (Roni), Atlanta, GA; Robert Compton, New Orleans, LA; as well as a sister, Ruth Harper, Jacksonville, FL; seventeen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Elsie's warm and giving heart, bright blue eyes and unique laugh touched the lives of many around the globe.The family would like to sincerely thank Darlene Starry, Heather Harris and Lynette Villarreal who provided a cheerful home and loving care since her stroke on March 2004.Funeral Services will be at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida where she will join her husband of 38 years, Raymond F. Compton, Capt., USN, Retired who died January 6, 1984.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the USO, Girl Scouts or Driscoll Children's Hospital.
