Following his service to our country, Gilbert worked as a Union Journeyman Plasterer, retiring at the age of 77. His name is placed in the Fulton Mansion time capsule in honor of his plastering work. Gilbert was born on July 26, 1930. He was the first born of Eliodoro and Frances Ymbert. After the early death of his father, at the age of ten, Gilbert assumed the role and responsibilities of the family patriarch. The duty he learned as a young child and the discipline he acquired in the Armed Forces never left him. He had an immense love for his family and his country. He coached his sons' teams throughout their Westside Little League and Pony League involvement. In addition to his love of baseball, Gilbert's favorite past times included reading, gardening, and fishing. We will have lasting memories of his quick wit and endless supply of quotes that always made us laugh. He, along with his wife, faithfully served at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church while it was still a chapel on the corner of Balboa and Galvan. They were lifetime parishioners at Holy Family Church from its inception, helping in its building, fundraising, and an active member of the 7:00 a.m. Puente choir until he was no longer able to physically attend church. The family will start accepting visitors at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday June 9, 2015, with a Holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Guardian Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church with interment to follow at The Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.A heartfelt thank you to the staff at New Century Hospice, Garden Estates, Angel Bright, and Dr. Guillermo Ramirez, and his caregivers: Sandra, Annavee, Tanya, Arianna, and Lisa from Serenity Home (John & Nicole Flores). 2 Timothy 4:7 'I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.'
