Gloria Utter Obituary
Corpus Christi, TX
On October 27th the long and happy life of our beloved mother, Gloria Nixon Utter, came to a peaceful end in her home of 50 years. Born in Austin, Texas on September 27, 1924, Sammy as she always was known, grew up in Enid, Oklahoma. Mom majored in Journalism at the University of Texas where she met her future husband, Norman. After graduation Mom moved to Corpus Christi to work for the Caller Times. Dad soon followed "Scoops" Nixon.
As well as being the "fun" mom, our mother was active in the local community: the Bar Association Auxiliary, Symphony Guild, and Friends of the Library. One of her greatest joys was being involved with the former Little Theatre, now Harbor Playhouse, where she won many Sammys for her work both on and off stage.
One of our parents favorite pastimes was playing Liar's dice with their good friends Jim and Alice Gabbard, Marshall and Helen Boykin and Lee and Pat Crocker. They have been waiting a long time, now the gaming table is complete. Roll 'em! She leaves to cherish her memory her two daughters, Melissa and Linda Utter.
Please join us in celebration of Mom's life on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 10:30 a.m., as she makes one final trip to her beloved All Saints Episcopal Church. Reception will be in the Parish Hall following the service. Come prepared to share your best Sam stories. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Seaside Memorial Park.
We would like to thank Altus Hospice, Visiting Angels, and all the caregivers, especially Debra Duke and Susan Wright.
