Isabel Hanna Obituary

HANNA Isabel Cowan Hanna was born January 6, 1912 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and on June 1, 2012 at the age of 100, she moved to Heaven to be with Jesus. She is joined there by her husband, Homer Lee Hanna, Sr., parents, James and Wilmina Cowan, siblings Ruth Stegman, Jimmy Cowan, Mable Coulter and Edgar Knope.Left here with many precious memories are her children, Jo Ann (Bud) Stovall and Homer Lee (Marilyn) Hanna; grandchildren, Shannon (Rick) Cantu, Sara (Zach) Gates, Will Stovall, Melinda (John) Wheat, Christi (Jerry) Haag and Ben (Meredith) Hanna; and her great grandchildren, Curtis (Kara) Miller, Kevin Miller, Cameron Cantu, Mandi (Jake) Kelley, Amy Wheat, Ben Haag, Brady Haag, Mary Kate Hanna, Jake Hanna, Caleb Hanna and Sara Hanna; great great grandson, Jackson Kelley; and loving friend and caregiver, Lilly. Isabel is also survived by sisters-in-law, Katie Cowan, Billie Wills and Ruby Nell Hanna and numerous nieces and nephews.Isabel's father, James Cowan, arrived in the United States from Scotland when he was fourteen. He became a land man and when Isabel was in her early teens, the family moved to the Rio Grande Valley. They lived on Boca Chica Road in Brownsville where her father owned a dairy. The area is now known as Cowan Terrace. Isabel graduated from El Jardin High School where she was a star basketball player. In 1933, she married Homer Hanna who served as an educator in Brownsville for 44 years and was honored by having Homer Hanna High School named for him. After his retirement, Homer and Isabel spent many happy years traveling throughout the United States in their motor home. They were married for 71 years and had two children, Jo Ann Hanna Stovall and Homer Lee Hanna, Jr. When Isabel became a grandmother, she was lovingly called 'Meme' by her grandchildren, great grandchildren and many friends. Isabel was an exceptional wife, mother and grandmother. As a wonderful cook and homemaker, she devoted her life to loving and supporting her family. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Brownsville for many years and was a member of PEO. After moving to Calallen to live with her daughter and family in 1994, she became a member of River Hills Baptist Church.Isabel 'Meme' Hanna will always be remembered as a strong, loving, petite, Scottish lady who loved the Lord and was an inspiration to her family and to all who knew her.A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at River Hills Baptist Church, 16318 Northwest Boulevard, Robstown, Texas.In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Meme's memory to: South Texas Children's Home, P.
