Julius Harris Obituary

Julius Leon Harris, 80, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2008 with his loving family by his side. Leon was born on February 5, 1928 in Weir, Mississippi to O.N. and Lucy Harris. He served his country in the US Air Force for more than 20 years. After retiring as a Captain in 1969, he settled with his family in Corpus Christi, Texas. He earned his Master's Degree in accounting and for the next 30 years worked with Stewart Johnson Bookkeeping, from which he retired in 2003. Leon enjoyed fishing, dove hunting trips and working in his yard. He was an avid Houston Astros fan and enjoyed following his cousin's Roy Oswalt's, pitching career. He can be remembered spending many hours reminiscing and telling colorful stories of family history. He was preceded in death by his parents: his loving wife of 38 years, Jeanne: and an older brother, James Lamar Harris of Greenville, Mississippi. He is survived by his daughter, Ann Gautney, of San Antonio, Texas, granddaughter, Laura Sayler (John) of Washington, grandson, Eric Gautney (Diana) of Australia, sister, Sarah Arnault and sister-in-law Maxine Harris of Mississippi: six great-grandchildren, Devin, Katie and Andrew Katzenberger; Marcus, Tristan and Regan Marie Gautney; numerous nieces, nephew and close friends. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Scott Howell and nurses, Dr. Nash and nurses of the Corpus Christi Cancer Center and the doctors and nurses of the Heart Hospital. A memorial service will be held later in January in his hometown of Weir, Mississippi. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association. Leon was a loving and supportive father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.
