Lon Cartwright Obituary

Lon Cartwright Corpus Christi, TXLon Cartwright passed away April 3, 2015, in Corpus Christi. He was born in Terrell, Texas, July 6, 1922, to Lon and Ross Cartwright. He grew up there in the happy company of many friends and cousins. He had two loves of his life Mary Leigh Zerbee whom he married in 1955, and Twin Oaks Ranch. Lon was involved in the Ranching Industry for 80 years, first with his cousins, Holman and Claire Cartwright and then with his son, Loncito. Lon served as President of the Live Oak County Farm Bureau as a Director of Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Assn. and the Live Oak Soil Conservation Board. He worked closely with the Texas A&M Experimental Station and TCU Ranch Management School. Lon served as a Director of First National Bank of Beeville, Texas. In 1984, he was honored by the Soil Conservation Service as Rancher of the Year. In 2008, Twin Oaks Ranch was the Live Oak County Conservation Recipient. In 2015, Wildlife in Focus VII of the Coastal Bend Wildlife Photo Contest was dedicated to Lon. Lon enjoyed immensely being a member of the Order of the Alamo, the German Club, and the Pilon Club. He loved his family. Lon's Wife, Leigh preceded him in death. He is survived by his son, Loncito and daughter, Claire Vaughan and her husband, George and grandchildren: Mary, Lily and Lomenick Cartwright, George Vaughan, Gus Vaughan and his wife, Erin and numerous Cartwright, Irvin, Weed and Carter relatives. The family wishes to express a deep sense of gratitude to the most wonderful caregivers. SERVICES: A Graveside Service will be on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at 10:30 A.M., at Mission Burial Park South. A Reception will follow at the Mission Park Executive Center, 1319 March Road. Memorials may be sent to Children's Hospital of San Antonio, the South Texas Children's Home or a charity of your choice.
