Lourdes Coutin Corpus Christi , TXLourdes Coutin, 85, of Corpus Christi, passed away at her home on Wednesday, June 12, 2013. She was a retired college professor, devout Catholic and a faithful parishioner at the Corpus Christi Cathedral.Lourdes was born on December 3, 1927, to Manuel and Zenaida (Vila) Gomez, in Havana, Cuba. She grew up in Cuba, graduating from the Nuestra Senora de Lourdes High School in Havana and went on to earn her Doctorate in Spanish Literature at the University of Havana. While in Havana she met the love of her life, Rafael Coutin, and they were married in 1950.Both Lourdes and her husband were instrumental in getting their family out of Communist Cuba in 1961. On her arrival to the United States, Lourdes turned her attentions to raising her family.Lourdes was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who never lost her passion for books or love of literature.Lourdes is survived by her son, Dr. Rafael Coutin and his wife, Dr. Mary Peterson of Corpus Christi, Texas; her son, Dr. Gustavo Coutin and his wife, Vivian D. Coutin of New Orleans, Louisiana; two sisters, Maria Noriega of Orlando, Florida and Mercedes Stech and her husband, John of Ettrick, Virginia; three grandsons, Christopher Coutin of Austin, Texas, Mark Coutin of Galveston, Texas, and Steven Coutin of Corpus Christi, Texas; two granddaughters, Dr. Julia Coutin of Blacksburg, Virginia and Ana Coutin of New Orleans, Louisiana, plus numerous others who all loved her and will miss her dearly.Lourdes was preceded in death by her husband of almost 55 years, Rafael Coutin, on October 1, 2005; her parents, Manuel and Zenaida Gomez; her brother, Dr. Maximino Gomez and her sister, Dr. Seida Gomez.A Memorial Rosary will be held followed by a Memorial Mass on Saturday, June 29, 2013 starting at 11:00 AM at the Corpus Christi Cathedral with Fr. Pete Elizardo as the celebrant. Internment will follow the services at Seaside Memorial Park.Funeral arrangements are under the care of Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Service and Crematory.
