Mark Combs Obituary

Mark A. CombsCorpus Christi , TXMark Alan Combs, 71, passed away on January 1, 2013, in a local hospital, after suffering from bone cancer and many other health conditions. He was born December 26, 1941, in Corpus Christi, son of Leland R. Combs and Margaret L. Combs. Mark spent his young life in Corpus Christi and then in 1958 his parents moved to Maywood, Nebraska to take over a family business. He graduated from Maywood High School in 1960. After spending two very cold winters in Nebraska the family moved back to Corpus Christi. Mark attended Del Mar College and then joined the Navy, in which he served four years and after that he joined the Air Force and served another 16 years as a staff sergeant. He met his wife Lynda in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. They married in 1966. Mark and Lynda had two children Melodie Lowke (Mark) and James Combs (Amy). He also had a step daughter Terri Krase (Steve). After his retirement in the armed services he went to work for his father in Kingsville, Texas and later took over that business, Continental Bus Lines and Western Union. Mark loved to read, and as a child would sit in his room and read the dictionary. He also loved to hunt and fish. After he developed macular degeneration he had to give up those things he was so fond of. When he could no longer drive a car, he purchased a tractor and would drive to church and into town. His friends always laughed to see an old man driving to church on a tractor and wearing a suit. Mark was a Mason and member of Al Amin Shrine Temple. Mark resided in Woodsboro, Texas and loved his friends and neighbors. He was a member of Faith United Church in Woodsboro. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Margaret Combs. Survivors include his wife, children, sister, Margaret Ann Kennedy (Marvin) and five grandchildren. A private service is planned for the family.
