Michael Schoffstall Obituary

Michael "Mickey"" Russell Schoffstall, 60, of South Park, PA, a beloved husband, brother, uncle, brother-in-law and friend, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2007 with his wife at his side. He will be greatly missed and forever by his wife of 37 years, Rebecca "Becky" Schoffstall. He was the son of the late Russell Schoffstall and Josephine (Opsitnick) Schoffstall and the grandson of the late Mary Opsitnick. Michael is survived by his brother, Thomas (Debbie) Schoffstall; uncle, Joseph Opsitnick; mother-in-law, Hortensia "Tencha" Hernandez; sisters-in-law Norma (Len) Vaden, Ruth (Billy) Gaines, and Nelda Travis all of Corpus Christi, Texas; and brothers-in-law Frank (Brenda) Hernandez of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania and David (Nora) Hernandez of Houston, Texas; nephews Justin Paul Green, Jacob C. Hernandez, Mark E. Travis, Carlos and Marco Del Orbe; and nieces Desiree R. (Guarionex) Del Orbe of Tampa, Florida, Stephanie N. and Jennifer M. Hernandez. He was affectionately known as "Mickey" and "Uncle Me". YN1 Michael was a US Navy Veteran and retired after 40 years of service. Michael began his career with the Bureau of the Mines and retired from Department of Energy after 32 years of service. Mickey will always be remembered for his love and kindness to all. Words cannot describe what a wonderful husband, uncle, and brother-in-law he was. He by no means failed you, he always came through. Mickey’s greatest joy and honor was being with his loving wife and dog, Prince. Mickey would never miss an opportunity to spend time with any members of his family and that part of him will be missed the most. He was like a father to both of his nephews, Justin Paul Green (20 years) and Mark Edmund Travis, II (14 years). Over the years he enjoyed golfing, hunting, traveling, and he was a member of the Bruceton Bowling League, was a lifetime member of the VFW, Disabled American Veterans and lifetime member of the NERA Naval Enlisted Reservist Association. Michael R. Schoffstall will continue to be in the hearts and minds of all who had the opportunity to know and love him. His fiery spirit and endearing quality to enjoy life’s precious moments taught each one of us the importance of family and friends. We will continue to carry his spirit and joy for love of family with us always. God Bless You. Friends will be received Thursday, December 20, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at the Seaside Memorial Park Funeral Home, 4357 Ocean Drive, Corpus Christi.
