Michael Skurka Obituary

Michael Andrew Skurka passed away on Friday, May 14, 2004 after a long courageous battle with multiple sclerosis, which lasted 14 years. Michael was born in McAllen, Texas on June 16, 1954. He also lived in Alice and Houston before returning to Corpus Christi. He graduated from W.B. Ray High School in 1972. He was employed at James Thomas Exxon and worked for several oil field companies in Houston, Texas and Randolph Door and Lighting Company in Corpus Christi. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. Michael was a friendly, easy-going person and a friend to all he met. He enjoyed all family activities, despite his affliction, and loved his family dearly. His good humor and spirit helped him and his family cope with his disease. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him. He is survived by his mother, Patricia Ansell; his father, Frank P. Skurka; sisters, Anne (Joe) Cavazos and Nancy Tischler; brothers, Mark (Zita) Skurka and Paul (Patricia) Skurka, all of Corpus Christi, Texas; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces also survive him. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday, May 17, 2004 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Services will conclude at the church. The family wishes to express its heartfelt thanks to Dr. Charles Breeling and Dr. Deborah Carver for their devoted care during Michael's long illness. The family also wishes to thank the staff of Vista Care Hospice Service and the many providers who cared for Michael's needs. Memorials may be made in his name to the Lone Star Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at 8111 North Stadium Dr., Suite #100, Houston, Texas 77054.
