Rey Rivera was a buddy of mine at Camp Roberts, California I met in 1968. He and I used to talk about the neighborhoods and people we knew in Corpus Christi. I was born in Corpus Christi, too, and we talked about Ella Barnes Jr. High. We used to travel to San Jose and San Francisco in our military uniforms. Once we walked on Haight-Ashbury district in San Francisco, to see where the hippies lived. We met lots of girls and double dated with girfriends a few times. I invited Rey to stay with with my parents in Hacienda Heights, California, where we used to meet girls to have fun. We remained friends even after I got out of the Army in 1969, and we used to get together around 1978-1979. I'm sorry he passed away, in 2009. My wife Patty and I visited Corpus Christi in 2003 but did, but I didn't have his address to visit him. He was proud to serve in the US Army and was a good friend. I will miss my old buddy Rey. God bless him and his family.

Sgt. Rey Rivera was one of my best buddies in my life. He and I served in the US Army at Camp Roberts, California from Feb 1968 to May 1969. He and I had many adventures together. He stayed at my folks' place on weekend passes sometimes and we would always meet girls. We were both raised in Corpus Christi, Texas in the same neighborhood and we used to talk about our schools, neighborhoods, and people we knew. I visited Rey when he lived with his brother in California after the Army and he visited me when I lived in Baldwin Park, CA. We always had fun and talked about girlfriends. He had a big heart loved his job in the military. I am 76 years old now, and Rey was about 2 or 3 years older than me. I still miss my old buddy, I'm glad he was married for a long time, continued to serve his country, and loved his his family. God bless him.
