Steven Jorgenson Obituary

JORGENSON Steven Charles Jorgenson, 22, born July 13, 1988, died May 26, 2011, while in New York City for Fleet Week with the United States Marine Corps.Steven was born in Missoula, Montana and moved to Texas with his family when he was a young boy. He attended several schools in Texas and graduated from Gregory Portland High School in 2006. He was a member of the National Honor Society, a Jazz sax player, enjoyed reading, was an avid guitar player, and loved all kinds of music. He always looked forward to travelling and seeing the world around him. After graduation, he joined the Air Force Reserves as a hot spot reporter and decided he wanted to be an active duty member, but his love of the service and desire for more brought him to transfer to the Marine Corps where he found everything he was looking for. After boot camp in San Diego, California, Steven was assigned to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and was soon deployed to Afghanistan for nine months and returned safely, with the pride of a Marine who served his country in the time of war.He was married October 18, 2010 to long-time girlfriend, Hope Martinez, who he had met when he was in Texas. He made plans to remain in the Marines and began the steps needed to start in the field of bomb disposal. He was to start EOD training at the end of this year, but was taken from us too soon. His smile will be remembered by everyone who knew him and he will remain in our thoughts forever. The sparkle in his eyes will never vanish from our memory. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Kathleen Jorgenson. He is survived by his wife, Hope Martinez-Jorgenson of Jacksonville, North Carolina; mother Anna Moomaw of Zephyr Hills, Florida; father and stepmom Charles & Jo Jorgenson of Missoula, Montana; three brothers Alexander, Tyler and Jordan Jorgenson of Missoula; step-sister Vanessa Nethercott of Polson, Montana; grandparents Terrance Jorgenson of Missoula, Sharen Dow of Corpus Christi, Texas; Paul Moomaw and Janet Allison of Missoula, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.A private viewing for close friends and family members of Steven will be held from 4:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. on Monday June 6, 2011 at Garden City Funeral Home with a gathering for those who wish to visit about Steven with friends and family immediately after beginning at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held in Missoula at Garden City Funeral Home on Tuesday June 7, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. A memorial service will be held in North Carolina at a future date.
