Wanda Hackett Obituary

Wanda Jean Hackett

Corpus Christi - Wanda Jean Hackett, 67, a longtime resident of Corpus Christi, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 3, 2020 at her home in Pflugerville, Texas.

She was born to the late Jimmy Warren and Ruth Warren Jones on June 3, 1953, in Kermit, Texas. Wanda graduated from Lovington High School in Lovington, New Mexico, in 1970, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Eastern New Mexico University in 1974. While in college she was a member of the Spirit Squad dance team and wrote for the school yearbook. After college graduation Wanda was initiated into the Corpus Christi Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

Wanda was united in matrimony to Paul Hackett Jr. in 1974 and they made their home in Corpus Christi, Texas. Wanda is survived by three children: Roderick Hackett (Rachel), of Round Rock; Amber Hackett Crosby (Larry), of Pearland; and Kendrick Hackett, of Austin, and two grandchildren: Janessa Hackett and Matthew Zaire Crosby. She is also survived by two sisters: Marsha Lawrence, of Corpus Christi, and Ramona Bowden, of San Diego; two brothers, Ray Kelley II and John Warren, of San Diego; and many nieces, nephews, and friends, all of whom loved her dearly and will never forget her tenacity, wit, grace, and undying love for them.

Wanda was a lifelong learner and took great pleasure in gardening and home décor projects. She loved celebrating holidays, Christmas in particular, with family. She passed her deep appreciation of education to all her children. Wanda was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. She spent many nights and weekends on various basketball courts, baseball diamonds, campsites, Scouting events, and track meets to support her children's interests.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 13, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Alice Taylor King Chapel of King-Tears Mortuary, Inc. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m.

my first memory of Wanda was when my mom first introduced me to my grandma (AKA Wanda) I was A little bit nervous but then I got used to her and she let me ride on her electric wheelchair. I met her when I was 3 years old.

My sister Wanda was a great educational inspiration to me and I
will miss her greatly. She always remembered the birthdays of family members and friends and was always cheerful and positive. Affectionately known as Poni in our family she is already missed by us all.
I love you sister.
Ray Kelley II.
