William Swan Obituary

William E. Swan Jr.

Corpus Christi, TX

Dr. William Everett Swan, Jr. (Bill), 77, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 8, 2018, in Corpus Christi, Texas, after a long battle with cancer. Bill was born July 9, 1940 in Kilgore, Texas, to Everett and Irene Swan.

He graduated from Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska, with a degree in Chemistry in 1962 and Loma Linda University School of Medicine in Loma Linda, California, in 1967. Bill proudly served his country as a Battalion Surgeon in Vietnam. He earned his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Scott & White Medical Center in Temple, Texas in 1974. After earning his specialization, he moved his family to his forever home of Corpus Christi where he worked as an Orthopedic Surgeon for over 40 years. During his decades of service to his community, Bill helped countless people heal and recover from sickness and injuries. He was known for having a wonderful bedside manner and could put the most nervous patient at ease with his humor, vast knowledge and down-to-earth demeanor. Bill always loved to work. He had a quick wit and boundless optimism that made him a joy to be around.

Dr. Swan is survived by his wife Candis, son William E. Swan III, daughters Brooke Frank (Mike), Heather Hazen (Tony) and Caitlin Dixon, granddaughters Caroline and Lindsey Frank, and grandsons AJ, Will and Hunter Hazen.

My heartfelt sympathy to the Swan family during this difficult time of loss. Dr. Swan was such a good doctor. He treated me when I had a serious back injury when he first started practicing and in fact, told me I was his very first patient. I am now 89 years old.

Sincerely, Joe R. Gutierrez

Dr. Billy saved my life in October 1975. I was in a very serious care wreck and he came into the emergency room and said listen to me. He put my broken badly back together perfectly. The world is a sadder place without him. RIP Doc

Such a big loss to Corpus Christi's medical community. I was blessed to have started my nursing career with Dr. Swan back in the 70's. What an amazingly talented, kind gentle man. Prayers for

Bill Swan generously opened his beloved ranch to our son, Ricky, and his friends when they were young boys and provided a host of incredible memories. There was nothing better than scouting for coyotes, bob cats and deer on its vast terrain. Bill entertained them with stories of his tour in Vietnam, always in company with veterans keeping everyone well fed. He particularly loved the beautiful bird, Vermilion flycatcher, that filled his trees in the Spring. He shared his love of nature and his grand South Texas acreage with open arms to so many. Our condolences to his wonderful family and especially his granddaughters Caroline and Lindsey whom our son and his friends attended Holy Spirit Episcopal Middle School with. We are thankful to have met Bill Swan and thankful for all the memories that will be treasured for years to come.
With love and prayers,
Rick and Marlene Wolfe

He did so much for so many he was a willing educator. Don't know how anyone could meet him and not love him. We certainly have for years and years . He will surely be missed by multitudes. I always loved his stories of taking kids clothes shopping at Christmas, he probably had even more fun than they did. He has been and always will be Dr Swan to us. Love this kind, smart , gregarious man. Loving thoughts and prayers for his dear family and Prisssy, always by his side
