Jacqueline Johnson-Garoutte Obituary

Jacqueline (Jackie) Kay Johnson-Garoutte, 65, of Canon City, Colorado, died on Thursday, April 29, 2021 after a short battle with cancer. She was born April 1, 1955 in Norway, Michigan to Ken and Marilu (Calcatera) Johnson. Jackie was a long-time resident of Canon City. She moved to Colorado from her childhood home in Michigan at the age of 24. She was born in the upper part of Michigan. She attended St. Patrick's Catholic School in Portland, Michigan for 10 years before graduating from Pennfield High School located in Battle Creek, Michigan in 1973. She married Dennis Garoutte on August 8, 1987. Over the years, Jackie worked at Energy Fields, the Domtar sheet rock plant and since 1987 she managed and owned Walt's Appliances, in Canon City - buying, selling, and fixing appliances for the last 34 years. She also managed storage units, apartments, and several downtown rental apartments and store fronts. She liked to keep busy! Jackie loved to read, shop for deals at Goodwill, hosting a good sale and a big bowl of ice cream. She was a lover of plants, flowers and animals. She and Dennis always owned at least 2 dogs and sometimes as many as 5. Her favorite breed was the dachshund and everyone who ever visited Walt's Appliance store met them because they went to work with her everyday! She leaves behind 2 beloved wiener-dogs, Sunny D and Holly. She was a loyal sports fan who cheered for the Green Bay Packers, the Kansas City Chief, the Broncos and most recently her nephew Ryne because his football and basketball games this year were available for her to livestream right into her living room from Michigan. She was a formidable athlete back in her high school days. Surviving are her father, Ken (Corrine) Johnson of Florence, Wisconsin; brothers, Michael Johnson of Battle Creek, Michigan and Scott (Sheri) Johnson of Battle Creek, Michigan; a sister, Jill (Eric) Petersen of Battle Creek, Michigan; many nieces and nephews and her good friends- Brenda, Karrie and Dave of Canon City, Colorado. Her husband Dennis (2019), mother, Marilu Johnson (2003), sister, Jeanne Grise (2013) and longtime friend Walt Shy (2019) preceded her in death. Her friends and family will miss her smile, her kind heart, her laugh, and her one-of-a -kind personality. Her family would like to thank the kind nurses who cared for Jackie over the past 9 months and her Colorado family - Karrie, Dave & Brenda - who were there when she needed them most. Enjoyed visiting with her over the years. We were renters of an office space she managed; we bought appliances from her. We also had a love of doxies. Sorry she's gone. She will be missed.

Jackie was a true delight. Loved her sense of humor and that bit of orneriness. She will be sorely missed. RIP pretty lady.
