John Krein Obituary
John W. Krein, 94, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2017 in Canon City, Colorado. John is survived by his wife of 73 years, Marilyn Doherty Krein, his son, Michael Krein, daughter-in-law, Janet Krein both of Canon City, daughter Kathleen Krein and Paul Fedorko of New York City, and sisters-in-law Shirley Krein and Marcie Doherty. He was the grandfather of Shaun, David, Dana, Jason and Avery Krein. He was preceded in death by his son, John W. Krein Jr, and brothers Fred and Ted, and sister Doris Wilke. John was born in Hollywood, California to Fred and Vera Krein and attended Beloit College for three and a half years before being called to active US Naval command of a minesweeper in World War II. He served his country in the Navy from 1943 until the middle of 1946 attaining the rank of Lieutenant. John met the love of his life Marilyn (Lynn) Doherty in Williams Bay, Wisconsin and they were married in November of 1944 in Williamsburg, Virginia. He began his business career as a door-to-door Singer sewing machine salesman in Anaheim, California. His career with Singer took him to Johannesburg, South Africa; Elmsford, New York; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Westport, Connecticut with each move earning him promotions. He was named International Vice President of Marketing of Singer Corporation in 1970 and returned to Johannesburg, South Africa, which he made the new headquarters of his division. He left Singer and in 1973 was later named International President of STP Corporation. He retired from STP in 1980 and with Marilyn embarked on several adventures in life. John and Marilyn took advantage of his Navy background by purchasing a Shannon 38' sailboat which they lived on part-time and also in several Florida towns. During that time they journeyed to the Bahamas, up and down the East coast to visit family, and all around the Florida Coast. After the sailing adventure, the two split the year in Florida and a "camp" in Rangeley, Maine. They were active in Rangeley Congregational Church, volunteering in the high school, and entertaining their many family members and friends. After the Maine adventure, the two divided their time between Apache Junction, Arizona and Marco Island, Florida. In 2000, they moved to Tucson, Arizona where they lived until moving back to Apache Junction. In 2009, they moved to Canon City to be near family. During these many years, John took great delight in building and landscaping the various homes they lived in creating a warm and welcoming place for them, their family, their children and grandchildren to play. To honor John's memory, support any organization that would help those in need.
