Shiree Shaffer Obituary

If you knew Shiree Antionette Shaffer, you love that she lived up to her initials: SAS! A vibrant, opinionated, loyal, friend up until her last breath on November 23, 2021. Born to Julie Shaffer (Steve Steed) and Tony Shaffer (Louise Shaffer) on September 5, 1980, she entered the world with a fearless spirit and a mission to protect others. She got to work quickly, by defending her older brother, Matthew Shaffer at a bowling alley when she was 7, and never missed an opportunity to stand up against injustice thenceforth. Shiree spent her childhood outdoors covered in dirt, which is just one of the myriad traits that she no doubt passed on to her daughter, Kellyn. Her childhood hobbies included singing, dancing, collecting stickers, and arguing with her brother. This list (along with her collections), continued to grow extensively throughout her life, thus it makes more sense to share what she didn't collect: Negative people or energy and hypocrites. She spent far too much time in high school quoting "stupid" movies like, Clueless and What About Bob? "Is this corn hand shucked?" Hanging out with her friends Jackie and Ashley. Performing with the high school choir and drama clubs. She also enjoyed gymnastics and flirting with boys. Shiree was an active member of her community and dedicated her life to helping under-serviced youth and those in need. Shiree had the opportunity to "serve and protect" as a deputy sheriff in Fremont County; as an officer with the Florence PD; and in various capacities at Southern Peaks. Among her collection of jobs, she was a leader and mentor to countless children in her community. Naturally, her favorite community engagement and passion was her role as a Civilian Cadet Advisor at the Florence Police Department, where she and Kellyn enjoyed bossing around her best friend and the Chief of Police, Shane Prickett. While she treasured her work and community outreach, her highest priority was providing her daughter a life filled with unconditional love, adventure, education, friends, and family. Her grandpa, Myron "Smitty" Smith and grandparents, Sharlene and Anthony L. Shaffer proceeded her in death and are waiting to greet her with open and loving arms. Shiree is survived by her daughter, Kellyn; mom, Julie Shaffer and step-dad Steve Steed; dad, Tony Shaffer and step-mom Louise Shaffer; brother, Matthew Shaffer; sister, Abi LaFleur-Shaffer; step-sister, Julianne; grandma, Antionette Smith; step-grandma, Dorothy Steed and a list of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends (almost) as extensive as her sticker collection. A short service will be held at Union Highland Cemetery on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at 10AM, followed by a celebration of Shiree's life, held at the Elks Lodge in Florence, CO from 11AM - 1:30PM. All are welcomed to join in sharing our love. We encourage you to wear Navy blue--which was her favorite color. In lieu of flowers or food, please consider donating to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital on behalf of Shiree, who was also a cancer survivor. Arrangements entrusted to Harwood Funeral Home.
