Thomas McCasland Obituary

Thomas Joe McCasland was born on November 24th, 1948, in Artesia, New Mexico, the son of Charles (Charley) Burton McCasland and Ethel Geraldine (Jerry) McCasland. Tom's father, Charley, was a Glazier and moved the family to Colorado Springs to work on the chapel at the Air Force Academy. Tom was 6 and his brother was 4 at that time. Charley had a sister living in Canon City, so the entire family moved here in 1958 and started McCasland Glass Company. Tom and his dad were inseparable, and together they built a family business that is still family-owned today. Tom and his son Chuck have been fortunate to have that same special bond as father and son. Tom graduated from Canon City High in 1966 and married at the age of 18. He has two children, Chuck (Heather) McCasland and Amy Burns (Jamie) Dickens. Together they have given him 5 grandchildren. His wife, Vivian Yoder McCasland, added 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild to his life. Tom loved his grandchildren and was particularly close to Garrett and Gavyn. They were his pride and joy. Tom was a member of the Canon City Church of Christ, where he and Vivian attended regularly and were very active. He was baptized many years ago and took his faith very seriously. Tom and Vivian enjoyed traveling to see family and friends, camping in the Southwest, and loved rock hunting. Tom was considered the patriarch of the McCasland family by all his family members. All his siblings presently live in Canon City, including his brother Terry Jake McCasland, and sisters Molly (Tom) Hamilton and Jody McCasland. There are countless nieces, nephews, and cousins living in town, as well as many friends that Tom considered family. Tom was a respected businessman, loving husband, father, grandfather, motorcycle enthusiast, and one heck of a pool player. There are very few people in town that don't have a good "Ole Tom McCasland" story. He loved this town, and he loved the people who live here. He lived a very full life and will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Vivian; son, Chuck (Heather) McCasland of Canon City; daughter, Amy Burns (Jamie) Dickens of Seattle, Washington; stepsons, Andrew (Katy) Murray of Bemidji, Minnesota and Ray DeAngelo of Miles City, Montana; grandchildren, Garrett and Gavyn McCasland, Evie, Lizzie, and Liam Dickens, Nettie, Axton, Brody, and Lenora Murray; and other grandchildren, Andrew, Keith, Kaelina, Fredie, and Mary Layman, Aislinn Murray; and great-grandchild, Austin Lee. Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Charley and Jerry, and former wife, Pam. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Veterans Memorial Park in Canon City, Colorado, with a reception to follow. We are so sorry for the loss of Tom. I have many good memories of him drinking coffee at the shop and talking about all (never all) but many of his adventures. When all is said and done he was a Good Guy. May God bless all the McCasland family now and forever.

We are heartbroken to know that Tom is gone. Praying for all of the family. Fond memories when we were neighbors, my boys wrangled his stray donkeys, many Sunday conversations at the irrigation ditch, and he would just stop by and visit just because. Rest in peace Tom

My memories of Tom were in the 7th grade. I had a crush on him and he would tease me all the time. My brother Ron worked at their glass business for a short time and Tom brought me several pieces of mirrors! I loved them and kept them in a shoebox for many years. Of course I moved to Florida when I was 17 but never forgot how friendly and nice to me! RIP old friend..,
