ARTHUR MOYER Obituary

Arthur Lee Moyer, Jr.

age 79, of North Canton passed away at The Pines Healthcare Center on January 26, 2021. Art was born to the late Arthur Moyer, Sr. and Helen (Garnek) Moyer in Pennsylvania on October 4, 1941.

In addition to his parents, Art was predeceased by his sister Carolyn Jager and brother-in-law Jack Jager. Left to cherish Art's memory are his beloved wife Patricia Moyer, son Ian Moyer, stepdaughters Lara Adams and Carly Mussey-Widener, grandchildren Ryan Diacontonas, Seth Widener and Camille Tazel, nieces Julie and Theresa Jager and Judy McClernon, and many dear friends. Art grew up in the Cleveland area and obtained his B.A. from Malone College and his Masters degree from Kent State University. His teaching career began at McKinley High School and continued to Stark State College where he was a professor of Social Sciences including Sociology, Ethics, and Cultural Diversity for over 30 years. Art also hosted seminars on creativity, problem solving, and diversity in the workplace. Art was an evangelistic person and gave of himself as a youth minister at Otterbein United Methodist Church, a youth leader at Faith United Methodist Church, and a leader at Young Life. In his later years Art attended First Christian Church. He touched many lives through his passion for and faith in Christ and leaves us with wonderful memories. Art was a warm and giving person, always sociable with a sense of humor and silliness, eager to learn and understand his fellow man, impart wisdom, offer a kind or supportive word or simply an understanding ear. He loved fishing and was able to enjoy this pastime in Alaska, New York, and many favorite spots in Ohio. He enjoyed Scrabble games with family and making holiday meals memorable. Art is and will continue to be missed by all who were blessed enough to know him.

A graveside memorial service will be held at North Lawn Cemetery, 4927 Cleveland Ave. NW, Canton at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, February 9th. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Art's memory to the Alzheimer's Association or the Stark State Foundation - Art Moyer Endowment (a scholarship established for students). I took sociology (stark state) while in high school and Mr. Moyer was the professor. Highly enjoyed his class. Never pursued college but that's the only credit hours to my name. My condolences.
