Dale H. Zengler
90, originally of North Canton, Ohio, gently passed away July 21, 2012 in Sebring, Fla.
Born in Middlebranch, Ohio, he is preceded in death by Lois, his loving wife of 61 years; two brothers, and three nephews. He is survived by his daughters of the heart, Sunny (Karen) Zengler, of Sebring, Fla. and Tammy Dodds of Boulder, Colo.
After serving in the U.S. Army in Algeria and Italy during World War II, he worked at The Hoover Company and Canton Plating Company. Dale was then recruited into his life-long career with New York Life Insurance Company. He became one of the first Stark County agents to achieve the distinction of Chartered Life Underwriter (C.L.U.), and went on to become a local instructor of C.L.U. accreditation.
Zengler held a private pilot's license, which he and Lois put to good use by traveling the entire East Coast. Before moving to Florida in 1991, Dale was an active member of Zion United Church of Christ, North Canton, where he served on Consistory, played golf in the Men's League (he hit a hole-in-one at Edgewood Golf Course) and formed many friendships that continued until his death. The Zenglers enjoyed playing golf, bridge and oil painting. After a stroke in 1997 and 1998, Dale became an advocate for physical rehabilitation, walking three miles a day and inspiring countless patients to strive for recuperative lifestyles. Angel, his beloved toy poodle, became a Highlands County mascot for seniors with disabilities and was crowned a Valentine Queen of Fairway Pines ALF in 2011.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, in the Chapel of Zion United Church of Christ, 200 North Main Street, North Canton, music beginning at 2p.m., and service at 2:30 p.m. Interment was at North Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Zion U.C.C. or Good Shepherd Hospice, 1110 Hammock Road, Sebring, Florida 33872.
