I just came across the film and sat down and watched it immediately. As a person who has tried to honor our fallen in various ways since 2007, i thank you for making this film. It evokes many emotions and perhaps my comment here is a bit selfish, but your film is inspirational to my mission to honor and remember. It also helped me to get to know your Dan and some if the remarkable warriors who help to make our world a better place. Thank you.

I just wanted to say I finally watched Collecting Sgt. Dan. It was great to see more about Dan, my squad was holding security for him when he became a hero. He is tattooed on my arm with my other fallen brothers. Even though I may not have known Dan very well I see him every day when he showed up to take care of the IED.... Thank you for making the movie and he is never forgotten.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Patron Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

Dear Mrs Patron
I dont know if you will remember me but I was in your Creative Writing class @ Lake HS. I graduated in 1996. Your class was my favorite. I (Chrissy Ward) was in there with Leigh Theiss, Tina Sutter and Lindsay Haupt just to name a few of us. We just had our 15 year reunion. Erika Miller asked if I remembered you and I told her yes she was one of my favorite teachers. She then told me about your son. I am SO DEEPLY sorry for your loss! It breaks my heart to see the pictures of you in the paper and on the internet. I wish I would have known sooner because I would have been there to support you. I know how hard it is to deal with a sudden loss as last year my father in law went out to work in the woods on the farm and passed away of a hear attack. I am so SORRY for the pain you are going through right now. PLEASE know that I am thinking and praying for you all!

To the many families and friends of Danny P,
My husband was neighbors with his aunt Rosie and I work with his aunt Mary Jean. My son Nick is a very close friend of Danny as is my daughter Laura, who both spent many hours in Theatre and Speech, and my son Drew, who so proudly preformed in the drumline as Danny unveiled the statue that stands in front of Perry High School.
I entrusted Kathy with all my children. She is a second mom to hundreds of Perry “speechies” who spent hours, days and weekends together as a family. Kathy told them stories of Matt&Megan …I put them together because they are one person, and Danny, and Frank…who at one time or another let us back in the school to go to the locker and get homework that was due the next day, so we knew him well. The stories of the kids filtered back to all of the "speeches" families and it quickly made us all a part of one big family. Thank you Kathy for holding my children to the same standards that we do as parents. For the incoming speeches… become a part of this special family and keep the memories of Danny with you.
Nick, after finding out about the tragic loss went with Laura to the brick in front of the statue at Perry and placed candles in the shape of a heart and spelled out his name and sat there for hours because they felt close to him and his memories.
Danny…his knee high black socks and his tennis shoes … will always make me laugh. We have all have laughed with Danny and some have cried with him. We will all miss Danny but one thing is certain...we will NEVER FORGET DANNY P.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Thoughts and prayers to the Patron Family during this difficult time. By reading about Sgt. Patron in the newspaper, I'm sure you are proud of him. It's never easy losing someone but please feel easier in knowing that the community supports you and yours. During the procession from the funeral home to the church, I had the honor of saluting Sgt. Patron and you when you passed Massillon Fire Sta. 3. I'm a firefighter for the city and it was the least we could do. God bless you and keep you!

To Mrs. Patron: Ma'am, I want to thank you. I never knew your son, I never had that honor; but I'm proud to say I follow in his footsteps as a United States Marine. I joined the Marine Corps one year ago this month, and am currently stationed in California. My girlfriend knew your son, and she spoke highly of him. He has inspired me to be a better Marine, and to strive to become a shade of the man he was. Thank you for your sacrifice, and for raising a compassionate, generous man. He would not have been who he was without you.
To Mr. Patron: Sir, thank you. You taught your son the values he needed to live a great life, to succeed in all his endeavors, and to have the courage he needed to be a Marine and perform his duties. The Marine Corps is the exemplification of the values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment; and while we are taught these values, they will never truly take hold and grow unless there is fertile soil, never stand firm unless there is already a firm base to build on. You made your son the man he was, and your son has inspired me to become my best. Thank you.
To Sgt. Patron's Wife: Ma'am, thank you for supporting your husband in his every endeavor, for being the solid rock he could rely on. I know it is hard to be a Marine's wife, and that it takes steadfast courage, strength, and love to stay when many would not. Thank you for being the support your husband needed.
You are all in my heart, thoughts, and prayers.

I grew up with Danny and he lived in my neighborhood as my parents and Frank and Kathy still do. I will always support Dannys decision and always remember him as a hometown hero. I still remember asking my mom if Danny could come to my birthday party when I was little (about 8 or 9) and she said yes...Kathy brought him over and he bought me a little necklace. I will always remember him that way and love him for that. Condolences to his family and wife. I (along with the Richville girls) will be there today and tomorrow to show our support as I'm sure he'd do the same. God Bless

Our son SSgt Patrick Hilty was one of Dan's roommates during his time in EOD school. Although we never had the honor of meeting Dan, we felt we knew him through Patrick's stories and photos. We grieve with you and know that Dan's service and sacrifice allow us to live in a free country. G-d bless him and all of you.

I learned of your loss with deep but mixed sadness and gratitude for your son's sacrifice. Although I did not know Danny, I feel the same brotherhood with him as with every fellow service-member and veteran. I know that you will treasure your memories of this remarkable young man and that as time passes, the sense of pride that you feel for his service and courage will deepen. I hope that you will display his flag and your gold star flag together.

My deepest sympthay Kathy, to you and your family. Your son is a true American Hero. You must be so proud of him. You probably don't remember me. I was a friend of your sister, Patty. She replaced me at Superior Dairy many, many years ago. And I worked with your dad, Bob, also. I'm sure they have all reunited in heaven. They will always be remembered and always be in our hearts. You will all be together again one day. God Bless you.

To the Family of Sgt. Daniel J. Patron
I wish I had the right words to say at this time, but I know there are none. I grieve for the loss of your beloved son and I know that I cannot fathom the pain you must be feeling. Your son will not be forgotten and what he did to help protect our homeland and our freedoms. It was his life that made him a Hero. It was his noble path that made him an American Hero. It was his ultimate sacrifice that made him a Fallen Hero. May God carry him to Heaven on His precious wings and give him a palace to live in. I pray that our Heavenly Father above will grace you with His love, His comfort and His peace. Heaven's Gates now has a new handsome Marine standing guard. Amen.

Prayers were said for those killed in the helicopter crash: then my niece Erin Hupp wrote about Dan giving his life the same day. We began praying for the Patron family and relatives. The only thing that keeps coming to mind is:
Jesus Christ died to give us freedom from sin!
Our military men and women go to war to keep us free - and some die for us. They have a special place in heaven with many crowns! Am sure you will feel the prayers as they surround you during these years of grieving.
