Donald Nixon Obituary

Donald E. Nixon
age 82, of Hartville, passed away on Thursday morning Oct. 17, 2013 at Altercare of Louisville. He was born in Canton, Ohio on Sept. 6, 1931 to the late Frank E. and Nova L. (Manfull) Nixon and graduated from Lehman High School. Donald served in the US Army and after being honorably discharged, he graduated from Mount Union College. A lifetime banker, he retired from TRANSOHIO Savings Bank after 36 years of service. Donald was a member of AARP and a 60 year member of William McKinley Lodge #431 F. & A.M., Valley of Canton Scottish Rite and Tadmor Shrine. In younger years, he enjoyed playing tennis and singing in choir. Throughout the years he found joy in teaching his granddaughter about currency and the history around it. He attended all her school and sporting events.
He is survived by his children, Mark E. Nixon of Hartville, Suzanne and Brett Ponton of Georgia, Diane and John Gill of North Canton; and the apple of his eye, his granddaughter Hannah Gill; and grandchildren, Faith and Seth Lantz. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Shirley Ann Nixon.
Calling hours are Saturday 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Arnold Funeral Home Hartville with funeral services beginning at 2:30 p.m. Final resting place is Mount Peace Cemetery. The family is grateful to the staff of Altercare of Louisville for their loving care and support.

A couple of my favorite memories with him are riding in the Goodyear Blimp and attending the Morman Tabernacle Choir at Blossom Music Center. A truly well versed man whom I will miss.
