Doris Self Obituary
age 75, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2014 in Jackson Township in her home surrounded by her loving family. Doris was born in Steubenville, Ohio to Vincent G. and Kathryn (Gussett) Ferguson on April 21, 1939. Doris attended Lincoln and Timken High Schools in Canton, Ohio. She received her Realtor's license from Kent State and was an active realtor for several years. Doris was a former member of St Michael's Ladies Guild, Women's Club, Quota Club, H.O.F Fashion Show Luncheon Committee for 15 years, and past President of St. Michael's Ladies Guild. She was a member of St Michael's Catholic Church, but went back to her roots at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Canton, Ohio several years ago.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and brother, George Vincent Ferguson. Surviving Doris is her loving husband of 58 years, Lloyd F. Self Jr.; son, Kevin L. (Suzanne M.-deceased) Self, DC.; daughter, Kathy A. (Bret R.) Bandi; daughter, Karen S. (Craig S.) Frederick; grandchildren, Erinn, Colleen, Alanna, Taylor, Olivia, Davis, Cole, and Kade; sister, Charlotte (Don) Beegle; brothers-in-laws and sisters-in- laws, Charles and Judy Scheurer, James and Kimberly Appleman and loved by several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014 at Karlo-Libby Funeral Home, Canton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Canton, Market Avenue South at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 13, 2014 with Fr. Kaylor officiating the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Doris' name to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1602 Market Ave S, Canton, OH 44707.

Dear Self Family: You already know how much I love Doris!! But, I will say it yet again about this WONDERFUL lady. She made such a huge and lasting impression on me and I feel so very fortunate to have spent many of my younger years with her and all of you! She always said to me (and I needed her reminders) during a celebration or just on any good day, "to cherish these times because the bad times are inevitable". This is a lesson from her that I will strive to do better than before – live in the moment and love life – that's what she taught me! She was just one of the most upbeat and positive people I have ever met and if I can be just a little bit like her, I would be so proud to pass along her great spirit to others!! Lloyd, Kevin, Kathy & Karen – I know this is a devastating loss for you, but boy did you all luck out in life having had her as your wife and mother!!! I first met Doris in 1983 after moving to Canton right out of Chiropractic College. Didn't know a soul and wanted every day to just go home. Doris "adopted" me on the spot and did everything in her power to make me feel at home. We were fast friends ever since. And I know she has touched the lives of many in just the same way. Her passing leaves a really big hole in the lives of so many. Love you Doris, always.
