Eileen Mary Spicer
89, formerly of Massillon, passed away Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Eileen was born in Massillon, Sept. 29, 1923, a daughter to the late Elder and Helen Grace (Brankle) McLaughlin and graduated from Washington High School. She earned her Registered Nursing degree from the former Massillon City Hospital School of Nursing in August, 1945, and received advanced nursing education training from The University of Cincinnati in the fall of 1945. She returned to Massillon and worked as a Registered Nurse at Massillon City Hospital where she was Head Nurse of Pediatrics for many years. Eileen loved reading, gardening, music, playing golf and bowling, but most of all, she loved her family.
Preceded in death by her parents, Eileen is survived by her husband of 61 years, Warren H. Spicer of Cincinnati; daughter, Mary Ann Spuhler and husband, Don Spuhler, of Massillon and Ellenton, Fla.; sons, James Spicer and wife, Toni, of Canal Fulton, Robert Spicer and wife, Rae, of Cincinnati, and Steven Spicer and wife, Kris, of Saginaw, Mich.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, James McLaughlin, of Westfield, Mass. After living in Massillon - each for over 50 years, Eileen and Warren had resided in Milwaukee, Wis. for another 33 years before moving to Cincinnati in 2006.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. The family has suggested memorial contributions to The Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., New York, NY 10001.
