Eleanor Jane McDevitt, 88, formerly of Canton, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2007 while residing in Chelsea, MI. Born in Canton, to Charles and Catherine Meyer, descendants of early German settlers to Stark County (Meyers Lake), Jane had lived in Akron, Cuyahoga Falls, Stow, and Deltona, Fl. before moving to Michigan. Jane was a charter member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Cuyahoga Falls as well as of the Silver Lake Country Club. Her other memberships include Lifetime Membership in the Delta Gamma Sorority, and the Embroiderers Guild of America. She felt, however, that her most important and meaningful roles in life were as wife and mother. In 1994, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Vincent Joseph McDevitt. Her survivors include daughters, Julia Anne (Peter) Dodge of Ann Arbor, MI, Margaret Mary (Stephen) Szalewicz of Sharon, CT, Patricia Ellen (James) Doyle of Livonia, MI, Mary Virginia (Michael) Mort of Fairlawn, OH, and Elizabeth Jane McDevitt of Lake Zurich, IL; sons, John Joseph (Diana) of Glen Ellyn, IL, and Daniel Vincent (Tamra) of Mogadore, OH; 15 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and one nephew; her sister, Marjorie Louise Washer; and her grandson, Jackson R. Helinder, also preceded her in death. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Dunn-Quigley Ciriello & Carr Stow Chapel (3333 Kent Rd. at Rt. 91). Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church (1905 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls), with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Akron.
