Bernice Grimmett was born June 6, 1934 in Tuskegee, Alabama to Jongelene Grimmett and Abraham Lincoln Allen.
Bernice moved to Cleveland, Ohio as a small child with her mother, she was baptized and attended Mount Herman Baptist Church.
While growing up, she obtained her early education through the Cleveland Public Schools, graduating from East Technical High School as a Salutatorian. From there, she attended Kent State University that Fall.
In 1956, Bernice married David B. Goodwin, and together they had two daughters, Angela Maria and Darlene Monica.
Early in Bernice’s career she worked for The Navy Finance Department as a key punch operator. Later, she moved on to work for The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a Tax Specialist and Instructor for 33 years. During her tenure at IRS, Bernice received many awards and certificates for her outstanding teaching and instructional skills.
Bernice enjoyed playing the Piano, Reading, Writing Poetry, Classical Music, Nature, Good Conversation and her grandson Daniel.
Bernice will continue to live in the hearts and minds of her family and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory, her sister, Lelia M. Harris, sister in-law, Dr. Dolly M. Goodwin, daughters, Angela (David M, Jeffress) and Darlene, two grandsons, Daniel and Kellan, five great grandchildren, Anasya, Carter, Breeya, Khateeb, Atlas and Care companion, Terri Simpson for her devoted unfailing dedication to Bernice H. Goodwin.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 4 at 11 AM at Our Lady of Peace, 12601 Shaker Blvd., Cleveland, OH 44120. FRIENDS MAY CALL AT BROWN-FORWARD FUNERAL HOME, 17022 CHAGRIN BLVD., SHAKER HTS., OH 44120 ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 3 FROM 3 TO 5 PM. Interment, Evergreen Cemetery.
