Frederic Shaheen Obituary

Frederic (Freddie the Frog) Shaheen
it is with great sadness that we announce our longtime friend, Freddie the Frog has passed. Fred Shaheen, age 75, passed away suddenly on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. A 1961 graduate of Glenwood High School, he retired from Procter and Gamble. Freddie was the host of Sunday Morning classics on Rock 106.9 (WRQK-FM) for decades. Every Sunday morning he would start his broadcast with The Rascals, “It's a Beautiful Morning.” Over the years, he was welcomed at sock hops, benefits, reunions and weddings as an Entertainer and Disc Jockey. Freddie retired from Rock 106.9 in 2015. Freddie was one of a kind; his love was working with his family and being on the radio. He loved his beloved fans as well. Freddie was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, Massillon Moose Lodge, North Canton Eagles and Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents Masid and Margaret (Esber) Shaheen. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Charlotte; two children Renee Shaheen (Chuck McDevitt) and Tony (Joni) Shaheen; two brothers the Very Rev. Fr. Joseph (Diane) Shaheen and Dr. Masid (Joan) Shaheen. Also survived by four grandchildren Tony (Taylor) Shaheen, Austin Shaheen, Macie Shaheen, and Michael McDevitt.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, with Trisigion services at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the church with Rev. Fr. Michael Corbin, Rev. Fr. Basil Shaheen and the Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Shaheen officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Louis Shaheen for all of his care over the years, along with Dr. Raza Kahn.

Freddie, “ I did it my way.”

Was just listening to meat loaf with my wife, reminiscing about how Freddy the frog introduced me to so much music (Phil keaggy/ glass harp the most memorable). Very sad to see he passed, but wow, he affected so many lives. I'll always celebrate his legacy.

ALWAYS thought of legendary Mr. Freddie & his strong full-of-music Soul whenever I heard/played Rascals "Beautiful Morning"- and what a kind and charitable character he had. He embodied all the joie de vivre of the music he spun & (Also smiled remembering Dr. Masid & Dr. Gus- by connection..). Deepest sympathies, ,Renee

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Freddie the Frog. I worked with him for 13 years, and he would always accommodate me with my requests when I called him. I think he enjoyed playing Grand Funk Railroad's "I'm Your Captain" as much as I enjoyed hearing it.

Freddie was also a great friend and mentor to me as I started in the radio business. He helped me out, did favors for me and even DJ'd my first wedding. I haven't seen Freddie in a few years, but I will always look back on my time spent with him as time well spent.

What a fantastic man and wonder human being!

I am deeply saddened upon learning of Freddy's passing into eternal life. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Unfortunately, I have only seen Freddy once in the last many years. It was at a family wedding and, of course, there were many people in our midst. He motioned for me to sit next to him for awhile and it was as if none of those years had intervened. He was so sweet and always so friendly......and we had such a fun conversation

I only wish I could have tuned into his radio shows...I understand he was such a great radio personality!

I send my deepest love and my prayers to dearest Charlotte and their beloved children and grandchildren and to the entire family, as well as their many friends. May Freddy rest in eternal peace.
