Met him at WONE. I was a contest winner and went to the ice capades with him. He was one of the kindest people I ever knew and I enjoyed the time I spent with him. You are greatly missed. Laurie

Saw that Bob Seger just released a cover of "Busload Of Faith" from your favorite album of all time, and thought of you, Jim.

You taught us well. RIP

I had the pleasure of growing up in the same neighborhood as Jim. We lived 2 houses up the street. We hung out a lot together either delivering papers on the Richie McCarty paper route (which would become mine), playing basketball, or watching Andy Griffith at his house.

Jim formed a Beatles band and we all wore those nasty Beatle Wigs. We performed for the neighborhood on numerous occasions without much fanfare.

My favorite memory is when Jim and I cut high school with Jim driving. We visited an establishment in downtown Canton that is no longer there. We were treated to Vaudeville acts and some very talented ladies. "Virgo Dupree" was the most memorable. I am still not sure how we made it through the front door. It must have been the fake ID's.

Oh what fun we had.

RIP my friend!

It has been over forty five years but Jim and I hung out together at Lincoln. I remember when he said that he was going to radio school, with his personality it was a given that he was going to be successful. So sorry to hear of your loss.

Used to listen to Jim on WONE when I was new to the area in the early 80s while doing alot of road time for my job in the surrounding counties. I changed Jobs and the radio went off for many years. I discovered THE Summit 7 years ago and became and active volunteer. Was thrilled to met Jim in person as a result. I volunteered many events with Jim most recently the last two summers in Youngstown for Live at the Morley. Great sense of humor, and a remarkable knowledge of music. The last time I saw him he hosted a Studio C with Graham Nash in September.Terrific interviewer as well. I'll miss him hosting Radio Sandbox too. It was my weekly quiet, serious listening time with him. Goodbye Jim thanks for great memories !

Met Jim in 1981 when we both were just starting our radio careers at WINW/WOOS-FM and we became quick friends. In the 35 years since, I've never met anyone with quite the same sense of humor as Jim. His ability to work a Big Time Wrestling character into any conversation would make me laugh until I cried more often than I can remember. Jim's love for radio was only exceeded by his love for his son. His on-air sign-off each night, "Goodnight Bubba Phillips (or any random Cleveland Indian from the 60s and 70s) wherever you are," is a classic. My condolences. A great guy is gone and will be sorely missed.

Jim and I grew up next door to each other. I'm honored to call Jim a life long friend. Jim was one of the kindest, warmest, funniest, loving, and sensitive people I've ever known. I remember the day he informed me that he was going to be a disc jockey. Sure enough, not only did he accomplish his goal but became a legend in the industry along the way. RIP my dear childhood friend. You will be deeply missed.

Jim was a wonderful person with a great spirit and superb sense of humor whose friendship I cherished. Most folks may forget but, he worked in Alliance at Q92 for a couple years between his stints at WONE and the Summit and we became friends. He never failed to make me laugh or brighten my day when he called and I will miss him.

My condolences to both his immediate family and his radio family.

Our family didn't know Jim well, but Evan was practically a member of our family when he was in school. We had only brief encounters with Jim at sporting events, mainly wrestling, when he would come to support Evan. Judging from the upstanding young man that Evan has become (and knowing how much effort it took to raise him ), there is no doubt in our minds that Jim was a heck of a guy. May he reset in peace and peace be with the family left behind.

I befriended Jim while I was working at WCPZ in Sandusky, Ohio. I used to listen to his show on WONE and after talking to him, he became one of my radio mentors. When I was hired at WONE in 1991, he made me feel welcome and like a part of the team. His brilliant humor and unique radio style was an inspiration to me. Peace, love, rock-n-roll and good night Jim Chenot, wherever you are. Rest in Peace my friend.

i was blessed to start my career with Jim in 1990 and learn from him that entertaining an audience was about respect and telling a good story, and Jim was the master. The way he treated everyone with so much kindness and the ability to make us laugh in any situation was something I've tried to do in my life. The legacy of Jim Chenot on the radio will continue to live in all of the broadcasters and listeners he's touched. I owe my success as an entertainer and a manager of people to Jim. Not to mention everything I know about Zzzzzzzepppppelin... Man!Joe Bevilacqua /WONE alumni
