Linda E. Van
Voorhis Smith
age 61, of East Canton, OH. went home to be with the Lord at her home. She was born in East Canton on Aug. 2, 1948 to the late Merlin LeRoy Van Voorhis and Mae Eloise (Shupe) Van Voorhis. She lived most of her life in the East Canton community, where she was a 1966 graduate of East Canton High School. She later attended the Aultman Hospital Diploma School of Nursing and became an R.N. in 1969. She was employed with Aultman Hospital for 40 years and spent the last several years with the Outpatient Surgery/Endoscopy Department where she was a G.I. certified R.N. She was the education chairperson of North Coast Ohio S.G.N.A. As a child, she attended Indian Run Christian Church and later as an adult became a member of the Canton Baptist Temple where she has been active in her Sunday School Class, Sharing and Caring and Women's Ministries. She also has given her time to the 4-H Club and the Robertsville Grange. Linda was known for her culinary creations and often donated baked goods to the Ronald McDonald House in Akron.
Survivors include her son, Matthew (Misty) Hackathorn of Akron, Ohio; a daughter, Casey (Lee) Langley of Crawford, Miss. She leaves behind, three precious grandchildren, Cole Porter Hackathorn 5, Amelia Rose Hackathorn 3, and Emmett James Langley 22 months. Linda is also survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law, Marvin (Marsha) Van Voorhis of Carmel, Ind., Willard (Linda) Van Voorhis of East Canton and William (Nancy) Van Voorhis of Dandridge, Tenn; an aunt, Doris (John) Risaliti; an uncle, Russ (Jan) Van Voorhis; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and co-workers.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Canton Baptist Temple with the Rev. Delaney Young officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel and one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday in the church. Memorial donations may be made to the Battered Women's Shelter of Canton, the Ronald McDonald House of Akron, or to Camp CHOF, c/o the Canton Baptist Temple.
