Maria Vasu Obituary
age 80, of Alliance, died at 9:45 a.m. Sunday June 20, 2021. She was born Nov. 16, 1940 in Arpasu De Jos, Romania, to Gheorghe and Eufrosina Vasu. Maria worked as bartender at the Arpas Restaurant and at the local Collective farm before relocating to USA (April 15th, 1995) where she worked in housekeeping at Comfort Inn and Villa Maria in Alliance. She was a member of St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church, was a devoted Christian, a helpful friend, and was always thanking GOD for her family's accomplishments, saying "E BINE DESTUL" (It's good enough). She enjoyed gardening, friends and her family, whom she proudly served as their matriarch (MATCA). Maria loved the "American life".
Maria is survived by her daughter, Maria Vasu of Alliance; son, George (Geni) Vasu of Alliance; four grandchildren, Liviu (Nicoleta), Dumitru, Adrian, Cristian; one great-granddaughter, Olivia; one brother, Nicolae (Sinuca) of Brasov Romania; sister-in-law, Torita of Arpas Romania; one niece and multiple nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Vasile, whom she married on May 26, 1957; and brothers, Vasile and Gheorghe.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church (1621 S. Sawburg Rd., Alliance, Ohio) officiated by the Rev. Fr. Pantelimon Stanciu. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22 at St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church with a Saracusta service to be held at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be at Mount Union Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, 75 South Union Ave Alliance, Ohio 44601. Friends and family may share condolences and memories online at www.ctcfuneral.com.
