Mary Gulling Obituary
age 77 of North Canton, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2011 in Mercy Medical Center following a sudden illness. She was born Jan. 22, 1934 in Massillon, the daughter of the late Joseph and Eliza (Dunn) Schaffner. Mary was a graduate of Louisville High School Class of 1951 and a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in North Canton. She enjoyed volunteering her time to many of the area's most charitable organizations including the Timken Mercy Service League. Mary will be remembered as a simple and elegant woman who was dedicated to raising her family. The most important thing in her life was her family and the time they spent together, especially as she prepared to welcome her first great-grandchild into the world.
Mary is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Kathryn Gulling of Richmond, Va. and Paul and Kelly Gulling of North Canton; sister, Norma Callan of Louisville; grandchildren, Kelly (Steve) Gulling DeJoe of Fairport, N.Y., Gregory Gulling of Richmond, Va., Jared (Beth) Gulling of Naples, Fla., Paula (Ryan) Gulling Hughes of Saint Augustine, Fla., Brian Blend of Columbus, Ohio and Holly Blend of Canton, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Jane Schaffner, Ruth Schaffner and Barbara Yates. She is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Gerald P. 'Jerry' Gulling who passed away April 24, 1996; her daughter, Joan Gulling Blend; sister, Beverly Cholley; and brothers, Roland 'Bud' Schaffner, Maurice Schaffner, John 'Jack' Schaffner and Tom Schaffner.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 10 a.m. in St. Louis Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. David Menegay officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Mary's family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 4-7 p.m. at the Paquelet-Falk Funeral Home in Louisville. I am very sorry to hear about Aunt Mary. She meant a lot to my brother and me and we shall miss her dearly. It was always nice to see her when we visited Grandma. We were always greeted with a nice, loving smile. She was a loving and giving person, and we will forever cherish the times we spent together. We will have good thoughts for Paul, Mark, Grandma, and Mom during these difficult times.
