Paul May Obituary

Paul L. May
Age 88 of Minerva died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010 in Mercy Medical Center. He was born March 15, 1922 in Boswell, Pa. to Harper and Edith (Adams) May. He served in the Civil Conservation Corps and worked on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. He is a US Army Veteran of World War II where he participated in the Invasion of France Campaign of Normandy on Utah Beach and received the purple heart, bronze star, good conduct medal and the France Victory Medal. After World War II he worked at Stebbins Business Machines and then owned and operated Business Machines Co. (Morton's Machine Division), Royal Typewriter Franchise, Western Stark County and Victor Adding Machines. He served as a member and Chairman of Perry Township Zoning Commission, Perry Township Clerk-Treasurer and Perry Township Trustee, and retired as coordinator of Stark County Commissioners Garage in 1985. He is a former Village of Minerva Councilman, member of the Minerva Senior Center Commission, member of the Groovin Grandpa's Harmonic Group and is a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minerva, American Legion Post #357 in Minerva, Minerva VFW Post #4120, and was a private pilot and member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, and Minerva Flying Association.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Helen (Frentzel) May who died in 1988; his second wife, Norma (Ambler) May who died in 2008; a daughter, Paulette Looby; sister, Aileen Davitch; and a brother, Harry May. He is survived by a daughter, Susan Miller and Dan Kunkel of Canton; three stepdaughters, Carolyn (Bill) Lemmon of Canton, Arlene Phillips of Minerva, and Judy (Frank) Dorosky of Canton; two stepsons, James (Barbara) Ambler of Elyria and Robert (Julie) Ambler of Oconomowoc, Wis.; sister, Charmaine Roadman of North Carolina; brother, Reed and Josie May of Johnstown, Pa.; six grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; and 17 step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minerva with Rev. Walt Jordan officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery with full military honors. Calling hours will be Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or the American Cancer Society.
