Richard Engelman Obituary

Richard Paul Engelman
age 84, died Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Rose Lane Health Care Center.
He was born October 21, 1926, in Massillon, the son of the late Paul O. and Marguerite (Jacoby) Engelman.
Richard attended McKinley High School and remained a die-hard Bulldogs fan throughout his life. After High School, he joined the Army and served in WWII in the Pacific Theater primarily in the Philippines. After an honorable discharge from the Army, he joined his father in a home building business. He continued the business after his father retired. In the late 1970's, he became the proud owner of the Kendal Tavern in Massillon. He owned and operated the Kendal for about 15 years and had a reputation for his kindness and generosity.
Richard was a devoted husband to Marie E. (Kiko) Engelman for 63 years and is also survived by five daughters who he considered his pride and joy, Pamela K. (Robert) Warren, Lynn M. (James) Mayer, Kay L. Meyer all of North Canton, Gail K. (Tom) Moeller of Mesa, Ariz., Jan Engelman of Massillon, a nephew, Greg Engelman, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Engelman.
The daughters would like to thank the special people at Rose Lane for the compassionate care they gave their father.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV.org) or the Alzheimer's Association (ALZ.org)
A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday June 9, 2011 at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens on Wales Rd in Massillon at 11 a.m. with Rev. Robert Miller officiating, followed by military honors provided by American Legion Post #221. Please leave condolences at www.heitger.com
