Richard W. Yerian
Richard "Dick" W. Yerian, age 75, Went Home to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family on August 8, 2008, after a lengthy illness.
Funeral service will be Monday, August 11th at 11 a.m. at East Greenville United Methodist Church, with Harry and MaryLou Merryman, Pastors officiating. Burial at East Greenville Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Zak-Monbarren Funeral Home, 29 E. Main St., Dalton, OH 44618 or at the church on Monday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be made in his name to: East Greenville United Methodist Church, 14539 Lincoln St., West, North Lawrence, OH 44666; or to the Dalton Community Historical Society, P.O. Box 273, Dalton, OH 44618; or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County, 2525 Back Orrville, Rd., Wooster, OH 44691. He was born July 18, 1933 in Cumberland to Roy and Lucille (Pickenbaugh) Yerian. He married Joyce Gardner on May 7, 1967, she survives. A resident of Dalton since 1967, he was formerly of Orrville and Cumberland. Dick retired from Orrville Products in 1979 with 39 years of service as a truck driver and in the shop. Proud to be a veteran, he served in the U.S. Army from August 1953 to June 1955 in Fort Knox, Kentucky and spent 13 months in Baumholder, Germany. He was an active member of the East Greenville United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and a Trustee for many years. He was also a member and Trustee for the Dalton Community Historical Society, and member of the former Orrville Moose Lodge. He was very proud of earning his High School Diploma from Orrville High School in 2007. He enjoyed camping, sitting around the campfire with family and friends, and motorcycle and bus trips. In addition to his wife, Joyce Yerian of Dalton, he is survived by children, Connie Sue Yerian of Rittman, Richard Eugene (Mary) Yerian of Davenport, Iowa and Melisa (Ken) Taylor of Dalton; grandchildren, Jeffery Yerian of Florida, Ryan Miller of Orrville, Bobbie Jo Miller of Wooster, Tiffany Yerian of Wisconsin and Shawn Tony of Dalton; four step-grandchildren, Jordan Taylor of Wooster, Dawn Caskey, Tabitha and Joshua Benes, all of Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Della Sue Yerian, Carolyn Butzer; and brother, Roy L. Yerian; first wife, Opal (Hawkinberry) Yerian; in-laws, Homer and Gladys Gardner.
