Robert Getz Obituary

Robert J Getz
76, died Monday Dec. 12, 2016 in Sarasota, Fla. following a brief illness. He leaves of 57 years his wife Patricia (Pentz) Getz; his sons Michael, Robert Jr (Jaimie), Todd (Lu Ann), Thomas and Ty (Donyale) along with daughter Stacy (Joel) Reott; fifteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two brothers James and Terry Getz. Born and raised in Massillon the son of James and Ollie (Meiner) Getz, Bob was a lifelong resident of Massillon until four years ago when they relocated to Sarasota, Fla. Bob was the quarterback of the Massillon Tigers in 1958 where he met the love of his life Patricia, who was a majorette. Bob worked in sales for Globe Paper for many years until he started his own manufacturing sales rep business. After several successful years, he sold the business and retired to Sarasota near many of his family and friends.
Bob was extremely active within the retirement community known as the “mayor” of Ashton Lakes to many. He revitalized the shuffle board community by renovating the courts and organizing a league. Bob was a very fun loving and caring person who always had a smile on his face and a joke to tell his family and friends. He was involved in coaching various sports to his six children and a number one fan to the grandchildren at their sporting events. He always supported his family in all of their endeavors and gave great advice when needed. Bob was an avid golfer who played in a league for several years with his good friends and never missed an opportunity to take money from his sons and son-in-law on the course.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 22, 9 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church (127 Cherry Rd NE Massillon). A service immediately following at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Salvation Army on Bob's behalf.

My sincere condolences to the Getz family.
"Coach" Getz was my first little league coach and made a big impression on me as well as did grandpa Getz. It was nice to see him a couple years back when he was purchasing a trailer and show him some old photos of he and I receiving a trophy. May you all find peace.
