STEPHEN PIPOLY Obituary

Stephen William "Bill" Pipoly, MD

It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of our beloved Bill on Tuesday August 27, 2019. After a brief illness he left this world on his own terms, peacefully at his home with his wife at his side. Bill was born to the late Stephen and Matilda (Gayetsky) Pipoly on October 20, 1953, and raised in the beautiful town of Poland, OH. Bill was a graduate of Poland High School; he graduated Cum Laude from the University of Toledo and received his master's degree from the University of Dayton. Bill completed his Medical Degree at the Medical College of Ohio at Toledo. Bill served his internship at University of New York and completed his residency in Cardiovascular Disease at Medical College of Ohio at Toledo. He ended his long career as a Cardiologist at Mercy Medical Center. Bill was the kind of person that once you met him, you wanted to know him for life. His love for his patients, friends and family was never ending. He lived his life to the fullest. He was a Cleveland Brown's ticket holder continuing his Dad's tickets since 1950. He was a fantastic swimmer, runner, golfer and drummer. Bill had a huge passion for music, loved to travel, hike his property and watch his favorite movies, over and over.

Those left behind, the love of his life, wife, Valerie; sister, Linda Book MD (Robert), brother, George Pipoly MD (Kathleen), brother, Daniel Pipoly MD (Cynthia); 15 loving nieces and nephews. Baby, you always said you wanted to go out like a firework, and you did, full of color, grace and love. Our hearts are broken, we will miss you immensely every day, never to forget you.

A celebration of Bill's Life will be Saturday August 31, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in North Industry Christian Church, 425 – 45th St. S.W., Canton, OH 44706, with Pastor Ed Barnes and Chaplain Mark Luecke officiating. Friends and family will be received Friday 4-7 p.m. in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave., and one hour before services on Saturday at the church (10-11 a.m.). The family requests that everyone wear their favorite Cleveland Browns attire to honor Bill's passion for his team. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Bill Pipoly MD Scholarship Fund c/o Canton Local Schools, 600 Faircrest St SE, Canton, OH 44707. Bill was like my Dad for several years when he dated my mom Susan Sherry, a long long time ago. He made sure I got through collage at the University of Toledo so I could go onto Veterinary School. Since then I have always received the most heart warming and encouraging Christmas Letters until 2019. I knew something was wrong, I will miss those letters and his kindness, passion and dedication. Love you Hoser!!

Happy Birthday Dr. Pipoly!

October 11, 2019

This is a very sad day for my husband and I. We received the letter from Mercy Medical Center on Dr P's passing. We are ever so lucky to have had Dr P in our lives. It is because of our family Dr and Dr P that my husband is here with me today and we were able to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary in July. Five and a half years ago it was the two of them that my husband had the Widow Maker'. He had a blockage of 100 0/0 and 95 0/0. Nothing could have brought him back. I will never ever forget sharing a chair in front of the computer screen and him explaining to me what I was looking at. He then turned him over to a wonderful surgeon, Dr Perry, and that is why he is with me today. Please know how we loved his always cheerful banter and hugs when we needed them. Just know he will be greatly missed by so many as well as Gene and I. We were in the office this summer for a stress test and realized he wasn't quite on his usual banter train!, We realized something was wrong. I was glad that day I had taken strawberry jam instead of my usual parting gift of homemade hooch! To his family's, we send our love and prayers. We know he will always be looking over my shoulders as I cook up a new batch of hooch !, Gene and Susy Webster New Philadelphia ,Ohio

I am a patient of Dr. Pipoly. I just now heard about his passing. As many others have noted, Dr. Pipoly was a very warm-hearted man. He treated his patients so kindly. He was honest and encouraging. I am just so sad to hear of his passing; I saw him only a few months ago. RIP Dr. Pipoly. It looks like you have touched (and saved!) so many hearts.

He was with me this past July 30th 2018 and took good care of me on my Quad Bypass. I will always remember his smiley face as he talked..he helped save my life and I am grateful for his being one of my 2 doctors. Rest in Peace... Angelo Gillono

Dr Pipoly saved my daughter Maria's life 5 yrs ago on April 17th. Seven days after she delivered twin baby girls. She was sent home from Akron General Hospital being told nothing was wrong with her. It was Holy Thursday...She was admitted to Mercy Medical Hospital's CCU Where she met him. His kind and gentle demeanor gave her and us her parents hope. Time was of the essence and he sought advice from Cleveland Clinic without any ego involved. His main concern was to save her life!! He encouraged Ryan her husband to bring the infants in anytime day or night. He knew their presence was going to be the best medicine for her. He was right!! He sat by her bedside, held her hand and gave her peace of mind. He was our 'Angel" sent from above. We will NEVER EVER forget Dr Pipoly!!!! Every time I see my daughter with her precious little girls Lydia & Melina I think of him!!! May he RIP....We love you so.....

Dr. Pipoly was a rare jewel; It's not often a a doctor appointment feels more like a visit with a trusted, close friend. I chose him randomly for a second opinion (lucky me!) His competency rescued me from an unnecessary ablation and literally changed the course of my medical care. Without fail, we engaged in much chit chat about our shared heritages; reminiscing the old country, and love of that inherited cuisine, including pierogies and stuffed cabbages. I am devastated at his passing, and offer my deepest sympathies to his wife and family, who must feel such loss without him. Gone much too soon - and even still, he touched so many lives with his kindness and love of life and people.

Dr. Pipoly was my mother's cardiologist after she needed a quadruple bypass, a heart valve replacement, and two other heart valves repaired, all in the same surgery. We didn't know him personally, but as the obituary says, he was the kind of person you wanted to get to know. So very caring and compassionate, and he took the time to talk to us. He's irreplaceable. My condolences to his wife, siblings, and rest of his family.

August 29, 2019

So sad to hear, my sympathy to the family. My dad saw Dr Pipoly for many years and they became good friends. They shared many stories of their past, food and music. He cared and helped my dad have a better quality of life. The

I knew Billy from the 7th grade. He was always part of our gang or to be more accurate, I was part of his. As anyone from our group remembers we all "went" with each other as far as pairing up. I never"went" with Billy but he was such a dear and close friend. When I was in the 7th and 8th grade Billy called me almost every night to challenge or agree with my latest boyfriend decision. It sounds like from everything I've read that he was just as funny and kind and loving as he was back then. I'm sorry for all of us that knew him. His loss is just so sad. But we also have to all remember how lucky we were to have had him in our life at least at some point. Rest in peace Billy. You will be loved forever.

Dr. Pipoly saved my life as well as my sanity when I had quadruple bypass surgery 8 years ago. He made me feel like I was his only patient. He brought me banana popsicles every day for 2 weeks and often said, "I think you need some rice pudding, too, my little porcelain doll." He'd show up in a little while with 2 servings. Bless his heart. My family and I will sure miss him!

We are so sorry to learn of Dr. Pipoly's passing. We were in to see him a few weeks ago. He was always so kind and willing to listen to what you had to say. It will definitely be difficult to find another doctor for my husband who is so passionate and kind and one you put your full trust in. We told him we would pray for him and we definitely had him in our prayers daily. May he rest in peace. Our prayers are with you. God Bless his soul.

I helped train Bill during his fellowship in Toledo. You could count on him to have a cup of coffee in his hand and a smile on his face. He was a great fellow, a compassionate doctor, and hard worker. Loved by all. This is a huge loss.
