Alexander Smith

Former Special Agent, Alexander "Sandy" Smith Jr, passed away August 13, 2022 after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his spouse Linda, of 26 years; her daughter, Amy (Glenn) Smith, of York, PA; sister, Cherry (Jud) Marshall, of Las Vegas; brother, Lindsay (Eileen) Smith, of Mentor, OH; sister-in-law, Judy (Armand) Citroni; brother-in-law, John (Donna) Harbin; and brother-in-law, Robert Harbin, all of Anne Arundel County, MD; best friend, Steve (Monty) Simon; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is a son of the late Alexander Sr and Kathryn Smith. Sandy joined the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs as a Special Agent in 1973, beginning his career in the New York Field Division. Subsequent assignments included the Office of Training, both Domestic and International, the Washington FD and Baltimore Do, and the National Drug Intelligence Center in Johnstown, PA. In 2003 he retired after his last assignment and settled in Somerset, PA with his wife Linda. For those who were fortunate to have known or worked with Sandy, he will be remembered as a talented investigator. He earned a reputation as a thorough and relentless investigator, was an outstanding teacher and a selfless mentor to many who sought his advice. He was particularly talented at conducting complex conspiracy investigations and was sought out by many younger SA's for his "how to" knowledge. If you were fortunate to be considered by him a friend, you know that it was for life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A celebration of Sandy's life will be held on October 21, 2022 at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, 1845 N. Center Ave, Somerset, PA 15501.
