Phyllis LaBorwit

Phyllis Joy Hammer LaBorwit, of Bowie, Maryland, passed away on March 21, 2026, at the age of 94. She is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Louis J. LaBorwit, married for 72 years, and her children, Melanie LaBorwit, Aline LaBorwit Davis (J.Michael Davis), and Alex LaBorwit (Liz Bronstein), and grandchildren, Gretchen LaBorwit, Ben Davis, Hannah Davis, Sophie LaBorwit, Seth LaBorwit, and Pearl Davis. She completed her undergraduate degree at Towson State Teachers College and her graduate degree at the University of Virginia.

A longtime resident of Bowie, Phyllis was a beloved educator for Prince George's County schools for decades. Always active, she was a Master Gardener and past president of the Bowie-Crofton Garden Club, a participant in the Senior Olympics, and for two decades was a participant in The Great Outdoor Challenge, hiking annually 200 miles across Scotland. She will be profoundly missed by her family and anyone who ever knew her, all over the world. Contributions in her memory may be made to Temple Solel, where we hope to establish a memorial garden, or the Bowie-Crofton Garden Club.

Services at Temple Solel, 2901 Mitchellville Rd, Bowie, MD 20716, on Friday, March 27th, 2026, at 10:30 am. Interment Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. Please omit flowers.
