Alvin Brown Jr.

Alvin Waple Brown Jr., 87, long time resident of Charles Town, WV, died peacefully March 3 in his Annapolis home, with his wife at his side. Born September 25, 1926 at Sibley Hospital in Washington DC, he was the son of the late Alvin Waple Brown Sr. and Gladys Feagan Brown. He was of Presbyterian Faith, having been a member of the Charles Town Presbyterian Church. Alvin attended Charles Town High School before he entered into the United States Army. He served his country from November 27, 1945 through April 10, 1947 when he was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant. December 24, 1948, Alvin wed his sweetheart Elizabeth Wall Brown. They recently celebrated 65 years of marriage. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, VFW, and Local 400. Alvin worked for Giant Food as a grocery manager for over 30 years before retiring. Alvin had a passion for trains and tinkered with model sets throughout his adult life. He enjoyed fishing, billiards, and his family. Alvin and Elizabeth belonged to travel clubs and enjoyed trips they took. He especially took pleasure in spending summers at the beach with family. He was an animal lover and leaves behind his "buddy" Teddie. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Wall Brown previously of Charles Town, WV; brother, Donald C. Brown of Stephenson, VA; two daughters, Brenda Kaye Seal of Annapolis, and Cheri Elizabeth Reynolds of King George, VA; two sons, Rodney Kyle Brown of Arnold, and Aaron Wall Brown of Asheboro, NC; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday March 6, at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, 310 S. Fairfax Blvd., Ranson, WV 25438. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 7, at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Edge Hill Cemetery.
