Barbara Eigenbrode Obituary

5/25/1948-8/28/2025 Barbara Ann "Pixey" Eigenbrode (née Chruniak) passed away on August 28 th, 2025 in Naples, Florida at the age of 77. Born in Salem, Massachusetts on May 25 th , 1948, Barbara Ann was the cherished daughter of Alexander and Mary (née Drebit) Chruniak. She was raised in South Hamilton, Massachusetts and graduated from Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School in 1965. A life-long educator, Pixey earned both a B.S. in Education as well as a M.Ed at Salem State College. She taught in Salem and New Britain, Connecticut before moving to Landstuhl, Germany for 3 years. She returned to the States, becoming a resident of Bowie, Maryland for 30 years. It was here that Pixey taught as both a Chapter I and Special Education teacher at over a dozen Elementary schools in PG County including James McHenry, Adelphi, Bladensburg, Hyattsville, Chillum, Riverdale, Glenridge, Matthew Henson, Samuel Ogle, John Carroll and more. Pixey inspired hundreds of students with her theatrical teaching style and became notorious for her fashion sense and picture hats. She retired to Naples, Florida and spent her time shopping, going to the beach, traveling, doing Mae West impressions and singing like Ethel Merman. She was, indeed, one-of-a-kind. Pixey is survived by her husband of 48 years, Ernest Eigenbrode; her son, Randolph Eigenbrode; and her brother, Stephen Chruniak (Carol). There will be a celebration of life for her at a future date.
