Charles and Ann Marie were my neighbors on the Magothy River in Arnold for many years. My husband and Charlie became good friends when he helped us in the remodeling of our home over the years. We often had holiday celebrations at each other's homes and enjoyed the beautiful river that we lived on. Charlie was an excellent carpenter and taught my husband and our 2 sons a lot about building and carpentry, and they have never forgotten as they often mention him when they work on something in their own homes. When Charlie retired, I went to his auction and bought a couple things that I knew would be remembrances of his work, a wood planer and other items that we still have. When Ann Marie became so ill and needed assistance, I went over with a few meals to help her, and they were always so gracious. They both loved the alabaster birds we gave them at Christmas time. She was a beautiful gal and reminded me of Natalie Wood, the actress, she looked just like her. Charlie built Ann Marie a small sailboat with a single sail and we sometimes saw her out on the Magothy sailing, but always staying close to the shore. She said she was afraid of going out into the Chesapeake Bay. I often wondered what happened to that little boat, I hope someone got it who appreciated all the fun she had in it. When Ann Marie passed on, Charlie was spending most of his time at the home he built for them in western Maryland, so we only saw him occasionally. The very last time was at another neighbor's home where we had delicious steamed crabs, right out of the Magothy, and we all laughed and talked about old times and memories from the years we lived in our little waterfront community. I will keep those memories and remember them fondly. May Charlie and Ann Marie rest in peace.
