Christopher Elion Obituary

ELION, CHRISTOPHER ALLAN lived on love, and gave far more love than he received to those who paid attention. He passed away on March 31, 2014 with his eyes on his family holding him, and his hand locked on his mother's fingers, almost 41 years after his family was told his cerebral palsy would prevent him from living beyond the age of two. His mother Jeanne, and father Erik disagreed with the doctors, advice, and paths that too many parents of CP children have taken. Instead, they spent every day enjoying making sure that Christopher was never without love and their personal care. Christopher did have special programs, like those at OBI, but his parent's, and Christopher, never allowed him to remain in one place for more than a few hours. He also went on trips to about every nice place in the US, a few islands, and Europe. Every effort and contraption were made to push him over sand, rocks, and whatever else it took to get him to see what many will never see. They also took Christopher boating, to every function they ever went to, and to meet about every country musician you can think of. Still, nothing ever matched the love Christopher gave. He had another sense altogether to know if his mom or dad were even opening a door from about anywhere he could not see or hear from his seat in the van. He retained so much detail that he would react in specific ways to where he was heading. Christopher's abilities included compensating for his inability to speak with unique sounds and movements to communicate for each of us who were fortunate to spend time with him. Christopher gave and allowed many lessons in humanity. Christopher is survived by his dad Erik, his mom Jeanne, his brothers John-Edward and Kevin, their wives Laura and Cathie, his nephew Severn, his nieces Josie and Sadie, his extended family in Holland, the Baltis family, good friends who took the time, and those who will pay more attention to people like Christopher. We all love you Christopher, and are better for knowing you. Viewing will be on Sunday from 6 8 PM at John Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis MD 21401 (410) 263-4422. The funeral will be Monday at 4 PM, at First Presbyterian Church, 171 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, MD 21401. Interment will be on Tuesday at 1:30 PM at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 1911 Forest Drive, Annapolis. Donations can be made to: Canine Companions for Independence, 7040 Bembe Beach Road, #11, Annapolis, MD 21403, or First Presbyterian Church, or O.B.I., 6855 Veterans Highway, Millersville, MD 21108. No family could have loved Christopher more than yours did - Erik, Jeanne, JE - my condolences, and my wishes that there will again be happiness in the memories of your son and brother. God bless you all, and Christopher.

Christopher had a smile for everyone he met (except for Buster, our cat, who punctured his air mattress AND the wheel on his 'ride').
We were saddened to hear of Christopher's passing but we'll always remember that smile.
Blessings always to Jeanne and Erik,
Bob and Andi
PS - Buster says he's sad too!

We are sorry for your loss, but most fortunate to have learned about your son through his obituary. God gave you a wonderful gift in your son. What a blessing. He is dancing in Heaven now! (We, too, are a family who is blessed with CP.) God bless you!
