Claudia Hakala Obituary

Claudia G. Hakala (nee Guidry), of Severna Park, Maryland, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025, after a brief stay at Brightview in Edgewater. She was 82 years old. Born on August 15, 1942, Claudia spent the retired portion of her life in the Cape Arthur community of Severna Park, where she built lasting friendships and was cherished as a kind and thoughtful neighbor. Her warmth, generosity, and easy smile made her a beloved part of the neighborhood, and she will be deeply missed by her many friends there. Claudia was predeceased by her husband, George P. Hakala (d. 1981), and Lawrence A. Winans (d. 2002). She is survived by her brother, Philip N. Guidry of Dover; her step-children, Jeffrey T. Winans, Carolyn J. Soldano, and Deborah L. Anawalt, and a large and loving family of grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her spirit and memory. After earning her bachelor's ('64) and master's ('71) degrees from the University of Maryland, she dedicated her life to helping others as a speech pathologist, serving the communities of Frederick and Prince George's County for over 30 years. She poured love into her quilting, creating beautiful pieces that became a lifeline of comfort and warmth for others. Her quilts found their way to Wounded Warriors, NICUs, and countless charities, where they offered solace, hope, and a reminder of her generous spirit.
