Delbert Puschert Obituary

Delbert Eugene Puschert unexpectedly passed away on July 28th, 2022 at the age of 89. He was the only child of Eugene A. Puschert and Hazel C. Puschert, born September 6, 1932. Del was a one of a kind personality who never knew a stranger and he often said "he liked people who bubble". He was a well known musician who played tenor saxophone with a who's who of musical personalities such as Elvis, Chuck Berry, Charlie Daniels and so many names, too numerous to mention. While he was enjoying a music career, he also took advice from his father which was to get a trade in case the music trade let him down. Del became a barber. He opened his own barber shop behind his home; Del's Barber Shop; a very unique shop with vintage memorabilia and excellent loyal employees and customers. Del loved them all. He traveled, was in an RV club, antique car club, and played in numerous bands, notably The Van Dykes, who were legendary in the Baltimore, D.C. area in the 1950s and 60s. Del enjoyed being a snowbird (Texas) and truly saw miles and miles of Texas. He is predeceased by his parents Eugene A. Puschert and Hazel C. Puschert. Survivors include his life partner, Harriette Smith, children; Delbert E. Puschert, Jr., Paul (PJ) J. Puschert, and Kim G. Hickman. Also survived by Nancy Duke and Karen Smith, multiple grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Moose Lodge 296, 1890 Crownsville Road, Annapolis, MD. 21401 A visitation for Delbert will be held Monday, August 1, 2022 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the John M. Taylor Funeral Home 147 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, MD 21401. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at 11:00 AM in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 1911 Forest Drive, Annapolis, MD 21401. An online guest book is available at www.johnmtaylorfuneralhome.com

I was traveling through the Annapolis area and got lost looking for a crab house. I had stopped in front of what I remember was a Home Depot? To ask directions.
As I was stopped a white caddy pulled up beside my Vouge RV and said "I´m really glad you came here to visit me" I had no idea what he was talking about.
After I told him that he said that he was at an RV convention with his Vouge RV friends and insisted that I come to his house that was really close. I followed him into a compound must have been a city block full of a fire house Barbershop and many buildings.
He gave me my wife our daughter and my young grandson a tour through his home played videos of him playing with Elvis and then gave us a tour of the entire area that I´ll never forget. He insisted that when I came through again to stop in.
Afterwards every time I came through Annapolis I would call him and we would meet up. He took us to dinner treated my wife and I like he had known us forever.
He was such a special person
Oh.. and my wife and I traveled together to see the whistle stop restaurant in Ga.
I was taking a picture when I heard this deep voice behind me that said " that´s going to be a great picture " wouldn´t you know, it was Del.
He made such a big impression on us and we will truly miss him.

Del, was always so kind, sweet & funny!! He always ended a phone call with "Keep Smiling!"
I will miss him saying those words!!
Bet he is smiling big in Heaven now!!

I had the pleasure of playing many fun gigs with Del. I first met him when I was stationed with the US Naval Academy Band in the late 1970´s. He was a wonderful musician and so very fun to work with. I will miss his playing and his sense of humor. Rest well Del and save me a place in the band.

Del was such a talented and jubilant person. He started as my father´s barber and then friend. My husband and I were lucky enough to have him play his saxophone, as part of the band at our wedding, 34 years ago. He was always willing to "perform" at a moment´s notice. He was the "star" of the show at my late father´s 80th Birthday Party. His joy for life and music was infectious. My family and I were blessed to have known him. We send our prayers of comfort to Harriette and his entire family.
