Elizabeth Shoemaker Obituary

Elizabeth Wheeler Shoemaker, 93, a 33-year resident of Annapolis and previously of College Park, died August 9 at Ginger Cove Health Center. Born in Masonville, NJ June 3, 1920 to the late Harold J. and Letitia M. Wheeler, Elizabeth volunteered for twenty five years as a transportation coordinator for the Prince George's Chapter of the American Red Cross. A member of Calvary United Methodist Church and the Navy Women's Golf Association, she enjoyed gardening, golf, bowling, floral arranging and reading. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, V. Bertram Shoemaker, whom she married April April 3, 1943 and who died June 5, 2012. She is survived by her son, Robert B. (Nancy) Shoemaker of Annapolis, two daughters, Lynn S. (Donald) Ogburn of Davidsonville and Betsy (Bill) Zimmerman of Riva; five grandsons, Michael Ogburn of Crownsville, Kevin Ogburn of Frederick, William Zimmerman of Edgewater, Patrick Shoemaker of Annapolis and Kurt Zimmerman of Riva; three granddaughters, Lynn Wimmer of Finksburg, Melanie McElhenny of Crofton and Kate Shoemaker of Los Angeles, CA; and fourteen great-grand-children. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 17 at Friendship Hall at Ginger Cove, 4000 River Crescent Dr., Annapolis, MD. 21401. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ginger Cove Foundation at the above address or Calvary United Methodist Church, 301 Rowe Blvd., Annapolis, MD 21401.
