Hayden Henkel Smith, Jr., 86, of Rockville, formerly of Gambrills, died June 22.
He was born July 25, 1923 in Buffalo, N.Y.
Mr. Smith was a World War II veteran. He served with the Army Air Corps in the European Theatre.
He loved a good cigar and a good pipe.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bettie Jean Flesher Smith; one son, David B. Smith; one daughter, Kathleen C. Smith; one brother, James D. Smith of Savannah, Ga.; sister-in-law, Emma Jo Durham of Orlando, Fla., and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 East Deer Park Dr., Gaithersburg, on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 1110 Saint Stephen's Church Rd., Crownsville, on Monday, June 28 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, P.O. Box 27106, New York, NY 10087-7106.
