James Morgan Obituary

James Frederick Morgan, 68, of Arnold, Maryland passed away December 21, 2022 at Anne Arundel Medical Center with his wife of 40 years, Janet Monika Kelly Morgan at his side. He had bravely battled Acute Myeloid Leukemia since January 2022. His avowed optimism and warped sense of humor got him through many difficult days and constantly impressed the medical personnel. Jim was born September 25, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois growing up in Park Ridge with parents Eugene and Yvonne Calkins Morgan. Jim and Janet were married October 24, 1982 in Baltimore, Maryland. He became interested in military history and making models of airplanes and miniature figures at a young age. He was invited to study with Grand Master Modeler, Sheperd Paine, winning awards for his figures from the Military Miniature Society of Illinois, Northern Virginia Modelers, and the "Summas Artifex" award from the Ontario Model Soldier Society. Jim worked in international transportation, licensed by the Treasury Department as a Customhouse Broker. He was a proud lifetime member of the Navy League of the United States; the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Florida; and the National Museum of the USAF, in Dayton, Ohio. Jim was pleased to earn his private pilot's license in 1989. During his tenure in various positions with the Annapolis Council of the Navy League, Jim was active with Community Relations visits by the crews of both the USS Maryland, SSBN 738 and the USS Annapolis SSN-760 as well as a variety of other volunteer activities. With his wife, Janet, he traveled to six of the seven continents exploring museums, battlefields, and historic sites. Jim made lasting friendships all over the world, providing unique visiting opportunities to England, France, Australia, and around the United States. His sense of humor and amazing kindness touched everyone who knew Jim. He always remembered who preferred which foods, drinks, and activities. Along with his wife, Jim is survived by his nephew, David Koos, of Bartlett, Illinois and Dave's sons Will and Tom. Visitation will be held at John M. Taylor Funeral Home in Annapolis Thursday, December 29 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. A Celebration of Life Party is planned for January 2023, with details to be determined. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National WWII Museum, Attention: Sue Lampton, Patriots Circle Director, 945 Magazine Street, New Orleans, LA 70130-3813.
